Hoping this doesn't taste like goat-p__s...because I thought their Powder Hound Pils tasted like dog-u-no-what.

pale gold color white head that receded quickly more likely due to the cold temp. Pretty decent lacing.

lots of grainy malt aroma and a hint of floral hop.

nice hop bitterness that hangs in there with the robust bisbuit-like malt. Finishes with a good dose of bicuit malt. Tweak the balance a bit more and we have a winner.

mouthfeel felt a bit thin...I wouldn't hesitate to try this again on tap if in the canmor/ banff area.

I think I had the Powder Hound Pilsner before and hated it, so I was avoiding this beer due to a case of mistaken identity. No need, because it's not so bad.

It poured into my pilsener glass a clear gold, with a resilient white head sitting atop it. The aroma was a underwhelming, muted spicy hops and some biscuit malt.

The taste was more distinct than the smell let on, with a nice bitter hoppy start. Things fell apart a bit when a harsh, grain husk flavour cut right through the hops. Malt restored some balance, but this beer didn't quite hang together and needs some refining of its rough edges.

A real pilsner in the German tradition...this is refreshing to find in Canada where even micro pilsners are kept bland. ....light gold, light bodied, dry and slightly bitter with a whack of light biscuit malt. Only lacks the pungent floral aroma of its European relatives. Lots Weyermann pilsner malt to chew on until the rush of Saaz hops balance it out and create that dry refreshing pilsen rush. A great Canadian Micro pils and will probably go under rated until some ale geek like Mike Jackson takes a swig of it.

Thanks for the 6 pack from Canmore Jeff. Also see this is available at some Calgary liquor stores.

Clear golden color, clear like you expect from a pilsner. Full, white head, but didn't last too long. Smell of sweetness and hops. The flavour is also a bit sweet, nice mix of sweet graininess and light hops. I thought was well balanced. A good step up from big brewer pilsners. Will be trying on-tap next time I am in Canmore.

Edit. Just emailed The Paw to see if this is/was Drooling Moose Pilsner, and got the reponse that "We had to change the name due to copyright issues with Moosehead Brewery. The recipe has changed.

At first I thought this was the bottled version of the Grizzly Paw's Drooling Moose Pilsner, given a slightly more palatable name and a fresh coat of paint. Unfortunately it is neither the Drooling Moose, nor close to being as good.

True to it's name, the main mountain goat on the label, up near the name, looks very close to humping that outcropping of rocks it is perched upon. This pilsner pours out of it's 341 ml bottle a deep clear golden hue, some carbonation but practically no head to speak of. I smell cascade, or perhaps chinook hops on the nose, cradled amongst sweetish malt and the presence of fruit, similar to Yukon Brewing's Chilkoot lager. The flavour is very sweet for a pilsner, fruit and sweet grains balanced out with some light herbal hops on the finish, yet it is all very light and not that pronounced. Definitely not what I was expecting. It tastes more like a Euro lager to me more than anything else. A little young as well. Mouthfeel lacks carbonation, is very watery on the palate, no crispness or dry finish.

It's good to see the Grizzly Paw Brewpub out in Canmore bottling more of their beers, and great to see them available here in Calgary, but I can't see myself picking up any more Randy Goat, as much as I like the name. I'd rather hold out for some Drooling Moose pilsner the next time I'm at the pub itself.
