Appearance - Pours a light copper with three fingers of dense, foamy beige head.
Smell - Bready malts, pear, plum, apple, leafy and earthy hops, hint of caramel.
Taste - Predominantly bready malts, followed by pear, apple and plum, as well as a light-to-moderate level of bitterness from the hops. Although I thought I picked up caramel in the aroma, I'm not getting it in the flavour.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes a little dry with lingering malt sweetness.
Overall - A malty brew that displays the elements of the style well.

Limited edition, purchased in a bomber from the brewery tap room (which was crazy busy - good on ya, GP!) This definitely hits the hallmarks of the style - oom pa pa head, nice copper colour, malty sweetness. The smell is seriously off-putting for this cowboy - stinky sweet yeast left to pasture. Otherwise, the rich malts and pepper notes help save the day.

16oz glass at the Grizzly Paw tap takeover at Beer Revolution YEG - I gather that this is a remake of a bock that they made back in 1996?
This beer appears a clear, medium copper amber colour, with one skinny finger of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly tan head, which leaves some seaward profile iceberg shelf lace around the glass as things slowly seep away.
It smells of semi-sweet, bready and doughy caramel malt, reduced apple and pear puree, a touch of estery alcohol, and very weak earthy, leafy, and floral hop bitters. The taste is sugary caramel malt, a further bit of toffee square sweetness, mixed generic citrus and pome fruity notes, a hint of phenolic booze, and more wan leafy, weedy, and floral green hoppiness.
The bubbles are quite understated in their barely interested-seeming frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and mostly smooth, maybe a minor chunk being carved out by the inherent wowee sauce. It finishes well off-dry, the malt, fruit, and alcohol not to be denied.
Well, this certainly has the majority of the hallmarks of the style, if rendered in a plain and somewhat disjointed manner. Not particularly difficult to put back right now, in kicking off a long weekend under some long-awaited rainy skies.
