Medium bodied, thick textured head. Flavor coffee like with a somewhat lingering finish. Could have more body and be more filling. Could have a Guinness like head/carbonation. Otherwise delicious, I would buy it again.

650ml bottle - part of their #622 Main Street Series. Given that the hops are mostly British, and that there are no adjuncts, I deem this one English all the way. Let us see.
This beer pours a fairly solid black, with subtle basal amber highlights, and three fingers of puffy, rocky, and bubbly tan head, which leaves some decent crooked web lace around the glass as it slowly recedes.
It smells of bready and doughy caramel malt, bittersweet cocoa powder, some red berry-forward fruitiness, gritty cafe-au-lait, a hint of anise spice, and very plain earthy, leafy, and floral noble hop bitters. The taste is grainy and bready caramel malt, rich dark chocolate, muddled stone fruit notes, roasted coffee beans, sort of spoiled milk, edgy black licorice, and more understated leafy, herbal, and musky floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is adequate in its structurally supportive frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and generally smooth, with a wee airy creaminess sniffing around, looking for a place to happen. It finishes off-dry, the lingering cocoa, caramel, and milky essences meekly ruling the roost.
Overall, this is a pleasant and easy-going stout, with lots of robust flavour and even a suggestion of nuance. Not a big-boy version, but sometimes that's a-OK, like when your palate (and constitution) might be just a little worn out.
