A- Holy crap! This can was a ticking time bomb of fizz! Good thing I only 'cracked' the seal and let the pressure out before fully opening and pouring, which I might add, only created a foam head with a little brew....this may take awhile. So....after getting some liquid into my glass, I have a foam head that is a variation of the Pillars of Life, if you get that reference, with little to no dissipation. The off white head and lacing created are both sticky, spider web like creations. The brew itself is hazy golden in color and there seems to be a large number of carbonation columns rising. Overall once it eventually settles down, it looks like a fine IPA!
S- Well it sure don't smell like an IPA, but rather there is a sweet caramel aroma, that has plenty of yeast, fresh bread, and brown sugar malts that carry well into the finish. Speaking of which, the finish is slightly floral, with muted petal, peppered spice and an ever so slight hopped leafy finish.
T- The overall flavors are muted, but they are there for sure. The hop presence is noticible with a slightly bitter Earthy leafy flavor that is rustic but not in a funky way. The yeasty, bread like flavors are indeed pleasant and the sweeter tones of the malt remind me of molasses, toffee, and light caramel. The flavors are well balanced and the finish is clean, herbal and leafy. I like it!
M/O- The mouthfeel is light/medium in body and the carbonation is mellow yet plentiful on the palate, with many wee tight bubbles popping on the tongue. The alcohol is hidden well, and I must say that the drinkability is high with this one and I would have no issue enjoying a few of these in a sitting. This would pair well with any type of pub fare or a tangy/spicy type of dish. I know I wont get to try this again beyond the current tasting, but am glad that I got the opportunity to have it! Hope the SPCA did well with the fundraiser!
