about the same dark brown colour as the base beer, with a slight head. nose is nice chocolate, solid wood, a hint of spicy rye. There is a faint chili in the background. Pepper notes seem a bit more like jalapeƱo being unfamiliar with ancho chilis. A touch of ethanol. Taste is choco, then some slight ethanol, then a mix of barrel, rye spice, and muted chili. Finish has some heat and a dry if mild cocoa linger with some chili notes. Warm in linger but more heat than chili. Just enough chili and same with barrel. More barrel than Huna but just enough to be present in a blended way. Both this and reg are much more balanced in adjuncts.

Poured into a snifter at the Tap Room Remix event during StL Craft Beer Week.

Copied from notes.

The brew pours a deep dark blackness that allows no light to get through. thick and viscous with minimal head but a slight tan ring around the side of the glass. A nice quick swirls yields some sticky lacing that coats the inside of the glass. Motor oil.

Aroma is pretty exquisite. The "base" BA Abraxas notes are slightly subdued due to the coffee blending. The nose is more roast and cocoa and less barrel sweetness and cinnamon. Still a wonderfully complex nose. Notes of fudge chocolate and bakers cocoa are present. As the brew warms more barrel sweetness, vanilla and spicy note permeate the nose.

The flavor is where I was blown away. A perfect blending. Notes of acidic and roasted espresso, coffee beans and fresh coffee grounds give the indication that this is a breakfast beer. Then this is followed by nice semi-sweet and slightly bitter dark chocolate along with rich fudgey chocolate. As the brew warms more flavors open up. The finish has some nice burnt-sweet caramel notes along with cinnamon spice and some nice barrel heat. Mouthfeel is liquid silk. Nice oily feel all over the palette with a lighter consistency.

A wonderful treat for all that attended the event. An amazing blend of delicious coffee with some nice chocolate, cinnamon and whiskey notes.

1/6 keg tapped today for STL Craft beer week. This may never be brewed again, or it may be bottled in the future? Either way, I would be very depressed not to see this one again. Two half pours combined into a full pour and enjoyed in a snifter glass at perennial

A - Just like the other barrel aged perennial stout offerings. Dark as night with a dark brown outer rim around the glass. Depending on where your pour was in the keg, this was either a minimal mocha chocolate brown 1 finger foam head or little to none. The foam slowly recedes back into the glass with decent lacing. Looks menacingly delicious, like BA Abraxas mixed with coffee...

S - Smell is out of this world, i heard some people say that the coffee wasn't very present but after having live blending with this mexican sump coffee, I could definitely pick it out. The nose is strong with chocolate coffee, cinnamon, more chocolate with hints of vanilla and oak. Stirring this up brings out the whiskey aromas and makes this beer extremely complex

T - Taste essentially follows the nose here. Loads of chocolate cinnamon and the mexican sump coffee upfront with more cinnamon in the middle combined with light hints of vanilla and oak. The finish is very smooth with just a tad less boozy flavor then I expected. This sat in the barrel for 14 months before being poured and blended.

M - Mouthfeel is slightly less thick than normal BA Abraxas because of the addition of the cold brewed sump coffee.. But it is still something to be marveled. It's soo chewy and smooth and goes down with easy. Leaves much residual taste and rides just below full bodied

O - Overall this is definitely up there with the best stouts that have touched my lips. Up there with VB Assassin, KBBS, MD, DB Huna, and BA Abraxas. This beats out the regular BA Abraxas for sure with the added complexity and new depth of flavor. Will be keenly watching for this one to hit bottles.

Thanks again Perennial for another killer brew.
