Collaboration with Resident Culture Brewing Co.

Honeydewdz is a DDH DIPA we brewed in collaboration with Resident Culture with honey supplied by the National Honey Board. Built around a malt bill of Golden Promise & Malted Oats, we threw some delicious MO Wildflower & NC Sourwood honey into the whrilpool with a heavy hand of Simcoe and finally dry-hopped twice with Mosaic, Citra and Simcoe Cyro. This beer reminds us of missing white water rafting excursions in North Carolina, flower encrusted mangoes, and dank oranges slices at halftime of your 3rd grade soccer match.

this is a really interesting ipa, i have been loving hazy ipa with honey lately too. neat that they sourced two distinct types of honey for the beer. its murky and matte looking, but honey toned, frothy headed from the neatly labeled can, pungent aroma of ripe melon, floral honey, clean citrus, and pine, some simcoe evident in this to me, but the honey sort of seems to morph these familiar hops into something greater than themselves, and there sure seems to be a lot of honey in this. i get the pollen and the waxy comb and all of it in the taste, nice on top of raw grain like honey on white bread, that obvious, with really strong supporting citrus from the hops, a hint of mango and kiwi, and then the woodsy simcoe, which seems to have a leg up on the other two here, but is never aggressive in terms of bitter bite or anything. the beer has a lot of body, and there is definitely some residual honey sweetness, but its a pretty unique honey complexion as they go, not sure ive had sourwood honey on its own, but it seem distinct, and now i want to! im glad its not any drier at the expense of this flavor. the hops and honey go so well together, and i love that relationship. this is a smartly crafted beer, a little raw to me overall, but the flavors are insane and super different. i couldnt drink a whole four pack probably, but a can was a wonderful experience. awesome collaboration here!

poured from a 16oz can into a perennial willi becher glass. pours a dark, turbid orange with very minimal white head which disappears quickly. leaving no lacing or rings. smells of fruity hops with a noticeable honey sweetness. taste is slightly bitter and fruity hoppiness with a touch of sweetness in the finish. it’s quite tasty. feel is decent but for some reason when i think of a honey IPA i expect thicker mouthfeel. probably unrealistic expectations on my part. overall, excellent DIPA where the honey and combination of hops play well together. not overly sweet, not overly fruity. enjoyed it quite a bit.
