Two distant beans (from El Salvador and Ethiopia) are roasted and then united to deliver a punchy riff on Sump. Notes of vanilla, graham cracker and red berries mingle with the stout base. Chocolate is less pronounced but the earthy, woody foundation stands resolute. The beer finishes with a kiss of brightness from the brief impression of anise liquor and cold apple wedges.

Had this and the regular 2021 side by side and preferred the other one slightly. Pitch black with brown highlights and head. Super earthy coffee in smell and taste. Smell is basically coffee alone with roasted malt. Taste has bitter dark chocolate, smoke, char roasted malt and a kiss of roasted nuts. Feel is dark and percolated from coffee, earthy and heavily roasted, not as dynamic as sump has been in the past

I love the original. This version is just slightly under it. Pure coffee bomb-rich, flavorful, bold. Roasty notes of dark malt, coffee, and chocolate. Slight oiliness, thick, boozy. Winner.
