The beer comes in a dark brown, almost black color with a thin ring of a head.
The aroma exudes barrel character of sweet and dense oak barrel. It's really sweet with some vanilla and bursting dark fruit notes. A good note of booze in there.
The flavor follows with sugary raisins, date, plum, fig with a medium body and then a hit of alcohol in the back. This mingles with oak and sweet vanilla notes.
This beer is quite big and boozy, but there's a nice sweetness, fruit character, and tons and tons of barrel character.

The beer pours a dull dark brown, coppery in the light with a thin tan halo of head that grasps for the inner glass wall after each sip. The nose is sweet and malty with a certain pit fruitiness. The taste brings out the vinous barrel flavors along with a malty quad base; a hint of plumb, tobacco, molasses flavors that are rounded out by oak. The mouthfeel is buttery at first, muted alcohol, vinous dryness, and a good malt backbone. This is definitely tasty, hard to say whether I like boulevard's BBQ better, but I'm definitely looking forward to the side project-perennial collab version...sshhhh!
