Bottled and possibly bottle conditioned
Pours a jet black body with fleeting tobacco stained head that clings to the surface
Aroma like cream of tartar and coffee grounds
Nice fruity coffee flavours with a swift bitter finish
Easy drinking stuff with nicely complementary low carbonation
A decent dry stout

A 500ml bottle with a BB of April 2014, so it's just out of date. Acquired a while back from a supermarket. The label states that this is a bottled version of their No. 2 Stout with some extra malt.

Poured into a tulip pint glass. A dark reddish-brown hue that appears pitch black in the glass. Yields a large head of creamy beige foam that lasts for a few minutes before subsiding to a patchy surface layer. Aroma of intense roasted malt with hints of burnt grain, coffee, molasses, subtle dried fruit, faint cocoa, earthy yeast and a twinge of stewed leaves. Seriously dry and dark - formidable.

Tastes of powerful roasted malt with a dry, bitter finish. Notes of burnt grain, coffee, molasses, subtle dried fruit, mild cocoa, earthy yeast, stewed hops and a faintly harsh quality. Highly-attenuated, followed by a strident, malt-driven bitterness upon swallowing. Mouthfeel is smooth, dry and lightly tingly, with pleasant carbonation and a somewhat insubstantial body for the style. Rather astringent, accompanied by an aftertaste of bitter roasted malt, earthy yeast and stewed leaves.

Tasty stuff, though it lacks the depth that would elevate it to excellence. Looks alright, while the aroma and flavour are replete with dark roasted malt and coffee notes followed by dry yeast. Body is OK but a shade too thin - could use beefing up a little. A treat for the tastebuds; worth sampling if you're a fan of roasted malt.
