Ebony. Dark tan head which is frothy and dissipates with alacrity.
Stoned fruit aroma. Booze detected. A little charred toast.
The burnt flavour continues providing a rather jarring bitterness.
Moderate body when I expected more.

Appearance: black as the night, thin light brown head. Little carbonation.

Smell: burnt, roasted, coffee - and then a hit of woodland fruit.

Taste: bitter, coffee and burnt chocolate. Quite boozy and rich.

Feel: for the richness and taste, was actually quite thin. I would've liked more thickness to it.

Overall: a thoroughly decent beer, and one I'd have again. Maybe lacking the thickness and lasting flavours to make it ideal, but I'd have no qualms in getting another of these.

One from my trio of the night. Deep and dark, the smell just hits you with a fait amount of dominant dark roast. Almost reminiscent of Harvey's own take on the style but without the same vinous or sour qualities. Prefers to run with the blackness here which, despite some black current and medicinal shadows, prevents it from having the necessary complexity and development. Nice enough though and certainly worthy of much contemplation.

Half pint at The Rake in London. From notes.

A - Poured pitch black with a half finger of bubblebath type head with filmy bubbles on the side. Appeared to be less than thick but Not bad.

S - Very mild for the style. Chocolate dominates with some dark bread.

T - Very plain for an Imperial Stout IMO. For the strength there wasn't much complexity. I got Some bittersweet chocolate and some coffee with sweet malt and more coffee later on down the road.

M - No carbonation, medium body seemed quite weak for they style again. Sweet finish.

O/D - Underwhelming. For an Imperial Stout this was weak on flavour and body and not worth seeking out. I wasn't too pleased to have been let down by this. By no means a bad beer, just one lacking character and depth.
