avondale sour room - juicy and fruity - Tart IPA
A: hazy gold color, minimal head
S: immediate intense grapefruit and pine, hint of tartness
T: there is an immediate tart bite followed by a pineyness, some of the grapefruit does show up here as well as well as some citrus tones and a clean malt body
M: a tad sticky but not overly so
O: the thing that I love so much about this young sour program is that it has taken the pissing contest element out of the beers they make. They are not trying to be the most funky, or the most sour etc. but they are not trying to present watered down versions of the styles they present either, they are simply trying to make beers that taste good and that are enjoyable. That is not to say that the beers are not complex, just to say that they stand on their own outside of the whole “sour beer” thing and are good beers in their own right. The tart IPA here delivers on it’s name in a way that i’ve found many other similarly described beers do not, it is not vinegar, and it is not a hop bomb or a malt bomb, it is a well balance “juicy and fruity” IPA and if that’s what you are looking for, look no further. Well done!
