Served in a pint glass at the brewery in Birmingham. From notes. Reviewed 22 November 2011.

A: A finger of white head fades quickly. The edges are a pleasant, light, nutty brown; the core is darkest mahogany. Opaque.

S: Not so exciting. Sweetish and lightly fruity.

T: So exciting! Much more tart than anticipated -- lots of bright berry fruit, understated Belgian yeast, and a light dryness/nuttiness on the endtaste. (Pretty sure it's roasted malt!) Mild and balanced, with a definite Belgian influence.

M: Nothing special mayhap, but pleasant, round, and slightly carbonated.

O: Great beer; deceptively good. Easy-sipping, but rewarding. I would have again. Definitely recommended.

A: Semitransparent muddy, murky brown, lighter at edges. Big, fluffy head. Not very attractive.

S: Some roasted malts. Maybe a little fruit; not very exciting.

T: So different from the smell - so much better! Tart. Some faintly sour Belgian yeast. Bright, sweet berries - wineberries. Roasted nuttiness. Very enjoyable.

M: Smooth, creamy. The tartness makes it a little crisp.

O: I quite like it. The smell is unfortunate, but does not take away from the beer itself. I'd have another, sadly I'm not in Birmingham long and Avondale doesn't bottle yet...
