From BeerAdvocate magazine #134 (Spring 2019).
In this collaboration between two California breweries, El Segundo Brewing Company made something it never brews (Vice, a hazy IPA hopped with Mosaic, Simcoe, and El Dorado), and State Brewing Company did a West Coast IPA (Versa). As for Vice, it’s pale and hazy with a thick, creamy head that drops to a respectful lace. The aroma opens with some ripe mango and bubblegum, followed by bitter orange, melon, passion fruit, pear, grass, and herbal fl avors. Light-bodied with a lively bite of carbonation that makes it very drinkable, Vice is quite juicy, but very clean and dry overall. There’s also a slightly breadiness in the finish with lingering citrus zest and astringency. I’d find it hard to believe that this is El Segundo’s first NEIPA, if it wasn’t for the fact that they are master IPA brewers.
