We built our name brewing clear West Coast IPAs with an exorbitant amount of hops…so the last thing you’d expect from us is a GABF Gold medal winning malt-forward amber lager. Yet here we are! And since we won that gold medal, oh a few years back, it’s about dang time we got this in a can! And with the temperatures rising, the timing couldn’t be more perfect.

Very dark amber brown with a bubbly tan head and thick lacing. Typical sweet malt with some faint brown bread tones and toffee in both smell and taste. Taste has some light herbal hops on the finish. It is well made though, malt forward with hop variance on backend, very clean sip. Solid but not anything I need to have again

Look: Rich, clear amber with an off-white head with tiny bubbles that quickly dissipates leaving solid lacing
Aroma: Sweet maltiness, warm brown bread, some toffee, some floral hops present but stay in the background
Taste: Toffee and bready notes dominate up front – almost a warm bran muffin-like taste. Hops find their way to the party and mingle nicely so as not to dominate the malt. Super clean and crisp finish
Mouthfeel: Good carbonation (medium), very crisp and quaffable, not dry on the finish and super refreshing
Overall: This is hitting the spot on one of our first 90+ degree days and I am really impressed with this delicious concoction. I think this is my first beer from these folks and I’ll definitely keep my eyes out for more of this as well as other lagers from them in the future as another great first impression has been made. Tasty stuff and recommended

Ok, so here we are - drinking an Amber beer called Casa Azul (that means Blue House to you non SoCal folks). But then again, Raul doesn’t really think much of what they put out at El Segundo anyway. Yep - I ain’t no ride or die OC/LA boi cuz I’m from here. It’s either good or it’s not. And so far, the only beer Raul truly likes from El Segundo is Mayberry (and that’s a shame because he’s into the West Coast Game). Anyway, not to go off track, but I decided to give ES another try on what I thought was a typical Mexican Lager until I poured it - nope, we are talking an Amber here. Ok...
Yeah, think of that Amber in your 7th grade science class that looked ok, but didn’t really have much substance other than that. And that’s what we got here: the beer looks ok, and then just tastes, well, really average. Like, why did I spend $4 on this beer when I could have bought a 6 pack of Dos XX Amber for $10? Again, it’s not all that bad, but when the Raul man is paying fixed gear hipster prices, he expects more.
Peace!
