8oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver Square - a Citra-dosed Blonde Ale.
This beer appears a slightly hazy, pale golden yellow colour, with one skinny finger of weakly puffy, yet finely foamy, and bubbly dirty white head, which leaves some decent painted lace around the glass as things slowly sink away.
It smells of gritty and grainy cereal malt, some orange, red grapefruit, and lemon citrus rind, an ephemeral earthy yeastiness, and some tame leafy, musty, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is grainy and crackery pale malt, muddled domestic citrus peel, faint estery yeast, and more understated herbal, leafy, and dead floral hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly benign in its bored-seeming frothiness, the body a so-so medium weight, and mostly smooth, with nothing really getting in the way of a swell time here. It finishes off-dry, the malt closing up shop and locking the lingering door.
Overall - this comes across much better than yer typical version of the style, for the obvious reason. Citra imbues it with at least a modicum of character, and thus, if you want something light-feeling, but with actual substance, give this one a whirl.
