Brewed for GABS Festival in Melbourne, May 2013. Tried there on tap.
Pours a rich amber colour with cream-coloured head, large visible bubbling around the edge but sticks around like a good altbier head should. Not bad. Not bad at all.
Smells intriguing. Quite grainy malt characters with puffed rice and a touch of pearl barley and then herbal on the back - thyme, rosemary. Interesting use of French hops in there for aroma, definitely.
Malt presence is more classic on the palate, quite sweet with notes of caramel, then some lemon character towards the back from the hops but mostly grassy and slightly herbal. More of that thyme character and reasonably bitter. Not bad.
Tingle of carbonation shows through the fairly light body. Wouldn't mind a bit more presence from an altbier.
Decent enough drop. Stylistically accurate but nothing too exciting.
