Bought today from Waitrose, Edgeware Road, London W2. £8 - ouch! but hopefully worth it. The scanner at the shop-till was acting up and this was another item I needed the staff to input manually. I told him I suspected it was a new product and they hadn't yet added the barcode into their check-out system - it's happened before with new beers there. He looked puzzled and said "£8! - I think it's priced as a multi-pack". Sadly not I replied, but hopefully it's something special :)
Fingers crossed, it's 10% makes many unexxpected facets 'just fine!', I just hope it's not waaay OTT hipsterised.
L- Cloudy like a German Weissbrau, mid-amber. Pours with a 3mm ultra-fine bubble snow white cap. Holds 'forever'.
S- It mentioned melon on the lable and I get that. Not much else stands out for me, though I'm pretty bunged up.
T- Melon comes through again. If I didn't know I might also guess it as apple, it has a fresh green-fruit aspect to it. In fact on my 3rd mouth-full that has morphed into a dry-apple briefly almost high-ABV% cider aspect. ...ps. Then later I start wondering it I'm getting a brandy note... might it be barrel aged, presumably?
F- The ABV% seemed to start as well hidden, quite an accomplishment for any 10%. Now it's warming a touch I'm beginning to notice it on my tongue. At the price I might be disappointed if it were too subtle ;; As it warms it seems to come over as dryer too.... unexpected.
O- I'm enjoying it, though at the price it's a one-off purchase for me. As it warms further (you have to slow-sip this one, it's waaay to high ABV% to rush) the ABV% comes further to the fore. Start it chilled, you should get to experience it slowly right through it opening up.
I'll read the lable after submitting this. Questions I'm interested in answering... is melon the only fruit-aspect present, might apple be here too? Is it liquor-barrel aged, if so does it happen to be brandy?
500ml bottle BB: Nov-2022. I also notice that it's brewed by AB Inbev UK; looks like the hipsters sold out to the global factory brand... same as the 'noble hippies' at Ben and Jerry's to Unilever.
