Very clear looking with a dark gold almost approaching copper color to it that pours with a finger worth of yellowish colored porous looking head that has middling retention that leaves slightly watery strings of lace down the side of the glass.

Nice hop bouquet with nice notes of citrus and tropical fruits with a ghostly whiff of cat urine.

Mildly bitter hop forward that goes straight to the back of the palate with notes of pithy citrus, floral hints and traces of black tea.

Medium bodied and mildly sweet with a good caramel note to it, a good amount of depth to it and a nice round mouthfeel that tingles slightly with a higher then average amount of carbonation to it.

Finishes hoppy and fairly bitter with a pithy, piney and herbal flavor that lingers heavy on the aftertaste with a faint menthol quality to it and slightly unpleasant acrid note to it, that builds on the tongue as I drank it.

Very good classic ipa orange/amber grapefruit bitter citrus. Low carbonation not much head ?? What can I say that others haven’t. Says it’s discontinued? I get it in Calgary July 1 2019 Worth every penny picked up 2 - 4 packs of tall boys $12 each

 

 

A: Head sticks around moderately. Golden colour... like pine sap.

S: Clean, grapefruit / citrus rind. Very aromatic and pleasant.

T: Bitter citrus and leafy hops. Nice flavour, and just the softest balance of malt in there for good measure.

M + D: Fairly crisp... medium body and easy drinking. All of 'em are lighter alcohol and good session brews. Nothing TOO extraordinary, but good.

A- I gave this a fairly hard pour, but there wasn't much of a head on this one, and what there was quickly dissapeared. Coloring is nice, with deep amber/orange tones. Doesn't looke like there is much carbonation and lacing is pretty much non existant. Nothing special to look at.

S- Better marks to be had here, as there is a good mixture of floral and citrusy notes, with leafy and earth tones in the backround. The hop aroma is decent in this, which is a nice change of pace from what I'm used to smelling. Overall, very clean smelling....there is some pine needles in the aroma.

T- This is well balanced. There is a good mix of the sweet malts, which at the same time is being cut right through by the prominent bitterness of the hops. There is a slight fresh grapefruit flavor and bitter greens are also noticeable. On the finish, the distinct flavor sticks around on the palate, staying fairly bitter and floral.

M- There is a noticeable viscous feel to this. Whenever I have a sip, I feel a coating over my tongue. Good medium body and the bitterness really stays the entire time the beer is on the palate. Mild carbonation really allows you to take the time to taste the flavors and on the finish, the flavors continue, almost drying your mouth and making you want to have another sip.

D- I think this would be a decent beer to enjoy with a spicy dish, as the bitterness and oiliness of this brew would really help cleanse the palate. I'd could probably enjoy a few of these in a sitting, as it's easy to drink. Another job well done by Wild Rose!

Nice, classic IPA appearance, with an orange-amber appearance, and one finger of bubbly white head. Good integration of grapefruit and caramel in the aroma. Better balanced than a lot of IPA's, with the sweet malts helping to cut through the high bitterness. Certainly lots of citrus in the flavour, with some pine notes. Crisp mouthfeel with medium carbonation. In my limited experience of Canadian IPAs this one is the best yet!

Thanks to Dave for putting together this fine beer and sending it to Toronto.

A - light copper, clear, small head recedes to a ring. No lacing.

S - solid grapefruit (Cascades I'm guessing) up front, with a subtle fruitiness and some sweet malt

T - grapefruit hops throughout, but very balanced with the malt. Has a very slight toastiness. Well rounded, with a lingering hop bitterness.

M - medium bodied with low carbonation, coats the mouth with flavour without being heavy.

D - I think of this as a session IPA, at 5.5% you can toss back several of these with ease, and it's good enough that you want to just that.

I've had some up and down experiences with this beer over the years, but when it's good, it's damn good. I recently toured the brewery with new-ish head brewer Dave Neilly, and I believe he has the beers heading in a very positive direction. Look out for more great Wild Rose products, and don't hesistate to give this standard offering a try or a revisit.

Appearance: Pours a lovely copper/rust colour with a big tight white head with plenty of lace and great retention.

Aroma: Caramel and citrus dominate the nose with floral and piney hops. Not has hop heavy as I would have hoped.

Taste: More hops in the flavour than aroma. Notes of pine and grapefruit and other citrus. Really good bitteness and in its solid finish.

Mouthfeel: Soft, smooth, high drinkability.

Final Statement: Would have liked to see a total hop bomb, but this is still a worthy IPA. Easy drinking, a crowd pleaser.

I had this at the Wild Rose Brewery's taproom, which has regular tastings of cask-conditioned versions of its beers. This particular batch of Industrial Park Ale was dry hopped with Cascade hops.

The beer came to me a hazy (unfiltered) copper, with a one-finger head that diminished to a ring but left sheets of sticky lace on my pint glass. The smell is much more hop-dominated than the bottled version of this beer, though some fruity esters eked through the mainly grapefruit and pine scent.

The hops provided a bitter beginning, citric but also herbal. Caramel malt make a brief but assertive appearance in the middle before a drying, astringent finish kicks in and clears the palate.

Despite being hoppier, the flavours in this beer melded well together and the medium-bodied, creamy mouthfeel made for a smoother drinking experience than the highly-carbonated bottled version. I want more!

Bottle: Poured a hazy brown color ale with a medium white bubbly head with average retention. Aroma of citrus hops is definitely present but not as dominant as a standard IPA. Taste has some shy metallic hops, which are not that pleasant with some caramel malt. A bit weak in the hops department and overall lacking character to make this truly enjoyable.

I originaly rated the IPA, this is the same brew. Served in pint glass at 16-18C (I like 'em warm).

Pours light golden with orange hues, aroma of citrusy hops and delicious english malts. I already know I'm gonna need more. Head rentention is minimal but present, good lacing. Cabonisation on the softer side, not a bad thing at all. Taste, english malts, some caramel lots of bitter hops and aroma hops pull through. I'd call upon this one to introduce people to what IPA is about.

Pours a clear orange/brown, medium white head forms, some lace and good retention. Smell is toffee, citrus/grapefruit hops, little bit of pine, real nice. Taste is toffee, some grains, citrus and grapefruit hops. Mouthfeel is light bodied with medium carbonation, nice clean bitterness. I dig this pale ale.

Pours relatively dark and dull, a medium brown with some orange to it. Despite being poured aggressively, less than a half centimetre of off white head formed. The head falls away to a ring with a thin cap.

The smell is quite flowery, indicating that hops should be dominant. Underneath is a mild toffee smell. Not bad here.

The taste is quite balanced, not a hop-heads type of IPA. Malt flavours of toffee and caramel are relatively sweet and hold long into the mouthfull. Herbal flavours appear in the middle and mix with the finish. The hops do come in the finish, but give an impression of toasted bread more than bitterness. I like the taste, though I think that fans of IPAs may find it lacking in the bitterness department.

The feeling of a mouthfull is quite good, as there is some weight to the beer and the carbonation is somewhere in the middle, not flat and not fizzy. Overall it is an easy drinking beer, that may have been better described as an APA than an IPA.

UPDATE: Now in bottles, as a six pack. The carton has cartoons and a story about "Wild Rose", a woman who has amazing adventures. Buy it for the packaging, keep buying it for the beer.

Also know as "Industrial Park Ale", named after their location, this IPA is only available on tap, but is fairly widely available at pubs and restaurants around Calgary.

It is far superior to Big Rock IPA, and I'm a fan of Big Rock beers in general. This has a more hoppy nose, and an awesome bitter/ hoppy flavor. If only you could get it in bottles...

Poured from the tall 1 litre flip top bottle. Dark golden color (darker than Keith's IPA). Small, even head, lots of carbonation with thin lacing left behind. Nice, full aroma of the hops, some sweetness and some floral notes. Strong hoppy flavor. Light malty taste perfectly balanced with the hops. Lots of taste, bitter but not super biting and no bad after taste. Another plus from Wild Rose, must re-visit this one..

sweet bottle but a strange beer as it tastes like a Scottish ale with a fair amount of hops and a dark brown colour. I liked this beer as it had lots of taste and finish but the designation as an IPA seems wrong. This confusion has led to the original name being retired. Don't get me wrong as I like this beer.

341ml bottle poured in a pint glass. I love the packaging of this product. The bottle is your standard Canadian twist off brown glass bottle, but the labels and the 6-pack box have alot of humorous messages. In fact, the box has a story about Rose and her wild red hair that runs around the box.

Orange-copper-ish and hazy in appearance. Cream coloured head is big and rocky and 1/2 inch on the pour. Recedes to a splotchy, patchy cap. Lots of intricate lacing.

Aroma is strongly of hops (piney and citrusy) with some sweet backgrounds that hint of caramel and fruit.

Starts off with a strong hop bite with a supportive caramel background. Through the carbonation rush the citrus hop flavour dominates with the bitter finish being more of a pine hop aspect. Aftertaste is quite bitter and dominated by pine hop.

Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied. Moderate amount of carbonation and a dry finish.

This is a terrific IPA. Probably my favourite of those that I've had thus far. It definitely has a good strong hop presence, but it's not overwhelming and the caramel malt gives it just the right amount of sweetness to make this beer really juicy and inviting. My only complaint is that the mouthfeel is a bit watery for my liking. As an aside, I tried a 1L flip top bottle of this in Calgary as well and found it to be tamer and more subdued than the smaller bottles. I'm not sure the reason for this, but I encourage everyone to give the new size a test run.

From a 1-litre, cleverly labelled flange-top bottle comes this aqua vitae(which means "vital water," for those not versed in Latin) from Wild Rose Brewery, Calgary. Appearance is copper, dark gold and red. The head is superb! Every time it was poured, it left a near-perfect two fingers of frothy, choppy head. Magnificent! The aroma is grassy, straw-like herbal hop. I smell sweetness, and slight berry odours. Overall, hop is balanced nicely with the malt. The taste is really quite delicious, though it does not deliver, fully, on what the aroma promises. Exceptional balance, however, exists in the taste. A very generous hop flavour finishes on the palate, with slight oily presence; but, yes, the malt is also there, deliciously suggesting itself. Unlike the other reviewers of this beer, I did not find the mouthfeel THAT watery (whereas Wild Rose's Brown Ale IS quite watery). No doubt it is much more full on draught. An easily drinkable brew, and probably my favourite from Wild Rose (except their seasonal "Cherry Porter," which is absolutely fantastic). Try it.
