16oz glass at Beer Revolution YEG Oliver - apparently this is one of the house brews for the Toad 'N' Turtle chain of pubs in southern Alberta - nice to see this keg of theirs (surreptitiously or not) make it way up here.

This beer appears a cloudy, medium apricot yellow colour, with a thin cap of wispy, bubbly off-white head, which leaves very little in the way of lace anywhere in the vicinity of the glass as things quickly subside.

It smells of bready pale and wheat malt, orange and stale red grapefruit juice, faint earthy yeast, a twinge of indistinct table pepper spice, and soft weedy, leafy hops. The taste is orange, lemon, and muddled melon fruit, a grainy wheatiness, biscuity pale malt, some hard water flintiness, echoes of further tropical fruit notes, and more leafy, weedy and slightly herbal hop bitterness.

The carbonation is nice and peppy in its challenging frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and generally smooth, just a wee fruity pithiness playing the proverbial pea here. It finishes trending dry, as the mixed malt shows a few cracks, but holds tight against the lingering citrus rind fruity essences.

Since I can find no mention anywhere on the interwebs about this brew, I'm going to have to assume that a few citrus fruits were harmed in its making. At any rate, a nice summer sipper, balanced well enough between the solid, if forgiving malt, and the zesty year round fruit.
