Poured from a bomber into a snifter
L- Very dark brown liquid with good carbonation. Pours a thick, mocha head that settles to thin layer.
S- Huge smoky coffee and dark chocolate smell!
T- Coffee, chocolate, and vanilla take hold here as expected but there is there is this very odd slippery sourness on the finish.
F- Much lighter bodied than anticipated which is further weirded up that by that elusive sourness.
O- Huge flavors in this tthing but could have done with more body, a higher abv, and a more present bourbon quality.

650ml bomber poured into tulip 2/6/17
A root beer looking liquid, thumbs width of tan foam has decent retention leaving some random patches
S cold coffee, vanilla, lots of burnt cocoa powder, leafy notes, charred wood, some musty something in the background though, maybe an infection setting in?
T burnt coffee and charred wood, very little bourbon, coffees in charge but again there's a little something lingering in the background, I have a feeling if I waited a few months something funky might take hold
M thin and it foams up, bitter, heavy coffee finish
O not a bad beer but not exactly what I was hoping for in a BB aged coffee stout, doesn't have the body and the barrel treatment might have hindered more then it helped
I don't think I've ever really fallen in love with a 6% barrel aged stout and this ones no exception, I wouldn't age this stuff if your sitting on any

650ml bottle - a Bourbon barrel aged coffee stout, with an ABV that seems a tad low for such a thing, amirite?
This beer pours a fairly solid black, with prominent basal orange cola highlights, and one flabby finger of puffy, very loosely foamy, and bubbly brown head, which leaves a few instances of calving iceberg lace around the glass as it quickly evaporates.
It smells of rich artisanal coffee, roasted caramel malt, bittersweet cocoa powder, subtle rye whiskey notes (vanilla and musty wood, essentially), cold cream, and very mild leafy and earthy hops. The taste is gritty and grainy caramel malt, a touch of free-range char, spoiled milk, hipster cuppa joe, faint vanilla and increasingly musty barrel essences, pithy chocolate, and more weak earthy, weedy, and dead floral 'verdant' hoppiness.
The carbonation is quite understated in its low-fi frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and sort of smooth, I suppose, as nothing particularly egregious sticks out at this juncture. It finishes off-dry, the chocolate, coffee, and fading barrel astringency seeing us to the door.
Overall, I dunno really what it is, but something seems off in this brew - the coffee is certainly OK, but the Bourbon treatment appears to be more of an affliction than as asset. Not my particular cup of, er, tea, but good on this Cowtown outfit for giving it the ol' college try.
