"Good as gold" barrel aged goldspur aged in oak barrels. Part of their limited edition brews.
December 2019 version at 9.5% and 15.6 IBU.
Appearance - Pours a hazy gold with two fingers of frothy white head.
Smell - spicy earthy, leafy, and floral hops, biscuity malts, pear, apple, hint of orange, peppery phenols, oak, white wine aromas, and spicy earthy yeast.
Taste - spicy earthy, leafy, and floral hops upfront. The brew then goes into the pear, apple, hint of orange, and peppery pehenols. The oak and white wine notes support the brew to make it a very dangerous sipper. The brew is rounded out by the biscuity malts and spicy earthy yeast.
Mouthfeel - Medium to full bodied with moderate to high carbonation. Finishes smooth with the white wine aromas, oak,pear, apple, and hint of orange lingering. The warmth of the alcohol lingers as well.
Overall - An enjoyable Belgian strong pale ale that utilizes the oak and white wine aromas to its advantage. I like how it creates a dangerous sipper with the ingredients already existing in this brew.
