Alberta Crude Oatmeal stout aged 4 months in French oak barrels with raspberries and sour cherries.
Appearance - Pours a jet black with two fingers of frothy mocha tan head.
Smell - oak, wood, barrel, earthy and leafy hops, tart raspberries, cherries, roasted malts, and earthy yeast.
Taste - oak, wood, and barrel upfront. The earthy and leafy hops come through next. The tart raspberries and cherries that were predominant in the aromas are muted in the tasted. The roasted malts and earthy yeast round out the brew.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Finishes creamy with the raspberries and cherries lingering.
Overall - An agreeable brew that took the flavourful stout and barrel aged it and added raspberries and sour cherries to it. The aroma of this brew was pretty good but the taste didn't translate with the predominant aromas of raspberries and cherries. This brew left me wanting more oomph from the raspberries and cherries.
