Reviewed from notes taken at a bar in Thessaloniki in Summer 2014:

"Single Hop Citra" IPA. 6.2% ABV.

Served on-draught.

HEAD: 2 fingers worth of head. White in colour. Nice thickness, complexion, and consistency. Leaves no lacing as it recedes. Retention is average - ~2 minutes. Has some decent creaminess to it. Could be more robust.

BODY: Clear translucent copper of above average vibrance. No yeast/lees/sediment is visible within; it's quite clean.

Appears adequately carbonated. I'm looking forward to trying it and it's a good overall appearance for an IPA.

AROMA: Orange, tangerine, pale malts, sweetbread, mango. The tropical notes dominate. On the sweeter side for an IPA judging by the aroma.

A pleasant aroma of moderate strength. No overt yeasty or boozy notes are detectable.

TASTE: Pale malts. Sweetbread. Floral hop flavours. Nectary hops. Some resins. Mango. Some mild accompanying hop bitterness.

Pleasant and enjoyable, but perhaps a bit unbalanced. Citra is a great hop, but more diversity of hop flavour would be welcome. Boasts nice complexity for a single hop IPA nevertheless, and depth of flavour is above average (as is flavour duration).

Average flavour intensity. I like it.

TEXTURE: Smooth, wet, crisp, medium-bodied, and of apt thickness. Complements the taste nicely.

Not boozy, harsh, gushed, hot, boozy, astringent, scratchy, or rough.

OVERALL: Very drinkable and enjoyable fare, but not world class (especially within the oversaturated IPA category). A nice Greek microbrew, and well worth trying even if it isn't fantastic in comparison to more widely available expressions of the style in countries like Denmark, the U.S.A., England, and the like.

On tap at Hoppy Pub

Clear golden body with a sticky white head.

Wow what an aroma. Minty, orange and tangerine. Super fruity.

A little light on the tongue with light bitterness. Orange citrus fruits and a touch lychee. Wonderful. Light bready malt peeks in behind the hop load to say hello.

Order this when you see it. Great beer.

A Greek, single hop IPA, non-filtered, non-pasteurized, brewed once as part of a new "Hobby Hoppy Series" by Septem started in 2013. As of this writing (1/2014), it is still available in some Greek supermarkets / beer stores. I bought and tasted two 330ml bottles.
According to the label, it was "based on the awarded recipe by Panagiotis Tsioros, winner of the first Greek Homebrewing Competition in 2012." The following additional info is also provided: "Septem's Hobby Hoppy Series – Homebrewer's Recipe No.1", " IBU: 65, Plato v/v: 15°, Served at 12°"(Celsius)]

Appearance: Huge, 4-finger head catches me off guard! It will slowly fade into a permanent, thin, beige film. Beer itself has a light copper color.
Smell: Citrus smell makes no effort to hide itself.
Taste: Citrus, pleasantly bitter over a founding layer of sweetish smoothness.
Mouthfeel: Smooth texture, medium body, medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Neither overly complex nor completely one-sided. Refreshing and interesting. A "homebrewing" experiment that I was happy to taste and which reminded me of Septem's signature "Honey Golden Ale". Let's hope future beers by Greek homebrewers will be equally interesting.
