I am really shocked how this ale made it to the public. Septem is Greece's best craft brewery in my opinion but they really messed up with this one!
The beer pours a very dark brown, almost black color. You have to hold your glass up in the light to tell that this is dark brown in color. No head retention.
Mouthfeel was cola-like. Very thin with light carbonation.
The aroma is a cardamon bomb. I could not detect anything else but cardamon and it seems to me that even cardamon has not been integrated in the beer in high quality. It feels as if it was added to my glass while I was looking away! One dimensional aroma.
Taste follows the nose. Cardamon, cardamon, cardamon. I could not feel any spicy warmth, or any other winter notes as the name would suggest.
Whenever I see a spiced winter ale, I always buy a pair so I can age one until next winter. Oxidation usually helps spiced beers to integrate all the ingredients and mellow the sharp and rough edges that sometimes spiced beers showcase but this one has no hope.
Really disappointed with Septem with this ale.
