Larnaca 30/9 2022. 33 cl bottle from Alfamega hypermarket, Larnaca. Bewildering red label with the words “Septem” and “Thursdays”.
Pours clear copper with a mid-sized white head. Stable. Settle as thin, patchy layer of foam unable of covering the surface of the beer. Moderate lacing.
Aroma is medium intense with a sweet, malty and toasted odor mingling with a bit of tart fruits. Dark toasted malts, butterscotch, citrus and clementines.
Light carbonation. Slightly thick, oily, soft, lightly tingling texture.
Flavor is fairly intense with a strong sweetness followed by a more moderate tart bitterness. Aftertaste is sweetish and lingers for a bit. Finish is semi-dry.
Decently toasted, sweet and harmless.

I enjoy red ales but this one just seemed to miss the mark, the hops were overdone, they could have called this a red ale IPA

330ml bottle from Oddbins, London Bridge (£2.50):
Rose coloured red in appearance with a thumb sized, foamy looking head that holds relatively well over the opening minutes.
Lots of hops with a good helping of sweet malts to back this up. There is some light citrus with a touch of caramel but this is minimal and is followed by more malts and some bitterness.
Citrus & hops kick things off with a touch of toffee and caramel but the almost acidic mix of orange and lemon seems to dominate at the start. After this the sweeter malts come in to play with a bitter taste that seems to linger and is backed up with some darker fruits.
Bitter with fairly strong carbonation and a light medium body. There is a big citrus tang around the middle of the mouthfeel and the bubbles seems to linger along with the bitter aftertaste. The finish is a dry one and the beer is quite lively on the palate but definitely over-carbonated sadly.
A disappointing offering, especially after the initial aroma when I opened the bottle seemed a nice. Sadly it was all down hill from there with too much citrus in the taste and the mouthfeel and not enough balance between this and the malts. Definitely the worst of the four Septem beers I have tried thus far.

COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Mary Rose is a beer based on an English recipe, inspired by the legendary ship of the British royal fleet created by Henry VIII. It is remarkable that in this particular ship the quantities of beer consumed were huge. Only beer would do, English soldiers and sailors were not used to anything else. In fact without beer, they would refuse to work! Mary Rose is a refreshing red ale beer with a unique aroma and high quality ingredients.

Hops ruled the aroma and taste, with the malts coming a close second: this is hoppiest Greek beer I've had anyway. The malts seemed to be a semi-sweet undertone below the hop front and I really enjoyed it, the best beer of the holiday.
