neat to see a belgian brewery doing something like this, whiskey barrel aged, unique beer, but i didnt love it. its sweet and kind of heavy from the barrels, there is some oxidation to it, and that bright character i look for in a tripel is quite bogged down here, although there are elements to enjoy and it warms up quite well, a fun little bottle to share with a couple homies. a bit darker in color than is anticipated, which is to be expected with the barrels. its copper to almost amber, off from clear but still super carbonated and high headed. the aroma is sweet, shows some astringency and even oxidation, a cool yeast that is specific to these guys, slight banana, toffee, newspaper, and red apple, quite complex even if a little weird, the whiskey is not dominant but its still obvious, weird in this base style, not totally compatible with this yeast i dont reckon, but intriguing nevertheless. the flavor is a lot like the nose, a tad dusty but maybe not old, sweet as toffee, apple pie notes, vanilla and honey and oak from the whiskey, the estery yeast hitting spice and fruit together and rather autumnal to me overall. white pepper, clove, maple, cider, and booze, its definitely strong. tangy to even slightly bacterial, but it works to cut some of the sugar, even though this does stay on my teeth awhile. i appreciate the high carbonation and overall this is different enough to be cool, but the barrel treatment doesnt all the way jive for me. just my second from these guys but i am very eager to try more...

From the 11.2 oz bottle in a snifter. This unique ale pours a hazed
orange marmalade with a nice head of white foam that settles to a thick
ring and layer with nice lacing. Nose of orange zest, peach, light candy sugars,
spicy whiskey, apricot, and light clove. Flavors expand on the nose nicely
with apricot, orange zest, lemon zest, candy sugar, oak, spicy rye whiskey, light
clove, and light fresh bread with a lightly tart finish. Mouthfeel is medium,
light carbonation and finishing medium dry and lightly tart.

Overall, a unique brew.

Cheers
