First review on BA! Wooo!
Served cool from 330ml bottle into straight pilsner glass.
First of all its from Yorkshire and not San Francisco, so labelling is a bit misleading. Inspection of the label tells me this is going to be a hoppy strong 'Imperial' lager Anyways...
L) Pale golden colour, cloudy, thin white bubbly head.
S) The Simcoe hop odour is so inviting, warm and fruity. HInts of peach, orange, grapefruit and ginger.
T) Grapefruit bitterness is right there, but some light honey and sweeter citrus fruits come in to balance it, if only partially. Overall impression is hop bitterness, from the SImcoe. It has Saaz in it as well, but I can't pick that up as it is masked.
F) The hoppy lager format is a winner in this example; the bitterness is there but there is a lightness from the lager body that means that it dissipates in good time inviting the next drink. The aftertaste isn't too bitter and the carbonation is quite light for a lager. Very nicely done in this department.
O) Exceeded my expectations, this is a hoppy but suitably balanced drink, a satisfying alternative to the IPAs on the market.
