Bold, smooth and full-bodied. This overachiever of a stout puts our brewhouse to the test with several unique caramel, chocolate and roasted malts. Its great depth and rich flavors are brought into balance with kettle additions of the classic Cascade hop. Keep it Beastie.

12 ounce can, freshest by 7/28/24 stamped on the bottom. Figure it's still good, thanks to Brutaltruth for this one! Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that stuck around a while. There's also a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like roasted malt, caramel, dark chocolate and some earthy hops. Taste is similar to the aroma, but there's also some piney hops and dark bready flavors noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's creamy and smooth with a moderate amount of carbonation. I liked this stout, it's a good brew that's easy and enjoyable to drink. The age certainly hasn't hurt it much at all!

From the 12 oz can in a snifter. This solid little stout pours a deep
blackish brown with a nice head of light brown foam that settles to a thick
ring, thin dusty layer, and sports some nice lacing. Nose of chocolate,
caramel, roast, light char, and herbal hops dashed with light pine. Flavors
hit the mark with bakers chocolate, anise, moderate char, deep roast, caramel,
light coffee, subtle pine, and herbal ops on the rear for a nice balance. Mouth feel
is medium full, light carbonation, smooth, and finishing with a bitter malt and
herbal hop finish.
Overall, reminiscent of Elevators stout that they used to serve with a spent hop
flower on top (which was a personal favorite). Nicely balanced and highly
drinkable.
Cheers

Picked this up last November in the pint glass looking very attractive thick mocha tint foam looking more like an imperial so dark. I guess malty and roasty not getting much hops which might be faded a bit after over 6 months in the van. Bottom says drink by June 2023 so to me it should last that long. Best part is it's very mild creamy and easy to finish.
Overall a nice get from Ohio might try their other beers if I can find them but for 2.50 a can I would get this again!

Look: a nice dark brown/black. Minimal head, about a quarter of a finger with not much lacing. Overall looks inviting, but also rather ordinary.
Smell: roasty but also very herbal! Like a campfire in a pine forest maybe? Strong hints of flowery grapefruit. Very pleasant.
Taste: dead on the same as it smells: roasty, but with a big flowery, somewhat herbal grapefruit finish. No surprises, just big, well-balanced flavor.
Feel: smooth and creamy.
Overall: more please! Everything about this was great - definitely a refreshing brew that went down easy and left me wondering how soon I can get another pint. Loved the flavor. Loved how smooth it was. The addition of the cascade hops works well here. In general, I'm not big on IPAs, but this reminds me of the wild flavors I do like in an IPA, but in the form of a delicious, smooth stout that keeps those flavors a bit more tame. This Beastie might be my new bestie for the winter months when I want a reminder of summer.

Outstanding example of an american stout. Well balanced between the hope and malt. Market Garden has released another outstanding beer. It's a shame it is a rotational/seasonal release. Get it while you can.

I got a can of this beer off the single shelf from my local Giant Eagle. It poured an opaque dark with very thin ecru head that is not leaving any lace. The scent had faint roast and earth notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with vanilla and roast base and a molasses finish. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a good beer.

A decent beer -- nothing great, nothing bad. The aroma hits you with roasted malt and touch of dark brew coffee, which directly translates over and dominates the taste. A little more bitter than I've experienced with other American Stouts, a defining feature of the brew, though I'll chalk it up to the added Cascade hops and overall simplicity of the recipe. If you're trying to keep it simple during the colder months, look no further.

12 ounce can into tulip glass, best before 4/18/2019. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger fairly dense and rocky tan head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark bread/crusts; with lighter notes of licorice, dark fruit, smoke, charcoal, citrus peel/rind, wood, grass, peppercorn, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/black/roast/bready malts; light-moderate citrus/earthy hop, and fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, and dark bread/crusts; with lighter notes of licorice, dark fruit, smoke, charcoal, citrus peel/rind, wood, grass, peppercorn, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pine, citrus peel/rind, herbal, woody, grassy, peppery hop; and roast/charcoal bitterness on the finish. Lingering notes of ark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, molasses, roasted nuts, toasted biscuit, dark bread/crusts, licorice, dark fruit, smoke, charcoal, citrus peel/rind, wood, grass, peppercorn, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts; light-moderate citrus/earthy hop, and fruity yeast flavors; with a great roast/hop bitter/sweet balance; and no acrid/astringent hop/roast flavors after the finish. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Medium carbonation and body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky/bready, fairly sticky/chalky, and lightly resinous/rindy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Minimal warming alcohol for 7.2%. Overall this is an excellent American stout. All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts; light-moderate citrus/earthy hop, and fruity yeast flavors; very smooth easy to drink with the modestly bitter/charred/drying finish. Very rich and well rounded stout malt complexity; with balancing citrusy/earthy Cascade hops. Light residual sweetness with lingering dryness. A very enjoyable offering, and spot on style example. Was a little too bitter at first, but got smoother as it warmed up.

Freshest by 4/19/19. 12oz can poured into a tulip. Pours almost black with a fluffy khaki head that falls leaving solid retention and lacing. The aromas have hints of chocolate, berries and citrus. Some roasted characteristics. Malts are there. The flavors basically follow the nose. Some dark chocolate. More hints of berries and citrus. Subtle hints of pine. Solid bitterness. Hops are there. Malts do their thing without dominating. Alcohol goes unnoticed. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with moderate to active carbonation. It's sharp, fluffy, smooth and easy to drink.
This is a solid stout. It's on the hoppier side for a stout, but the hops don't completely dominate. It's a little rough around the edges at times, but it's still pretty enjoyable.

Rich roasted aroma, pours an opaque black with a thin tan head. The flavor is predominantly roast, with some herbal hop notes coming in during the finish. Full bodied, but not much going on. Not a bad stout, but middle of the road.

The one word that comes to mind while drinking this beer is "average". It's decent but absolutely nothing stands out. Drinkable but forgettable. One and done.
