I am trying this beer off the tapper at Grizzlybird Brewery as a guest tap as part of a four sample flight. It poured an opaque dark with khaki head that is leaving some lace. The scent had beautiful caramel mocha notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with sweet caramel malt base with chocolate mocha touch of vanilla presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body and had smooth carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

this one has been in the beer fridge for a long time, not sure why it took me so long to get around to opening it, but its really solid. lots of flavored dark beers it seems from heretic, but they all do their own thing, and they are all very good. this is done with vanilla and caramel, so i expected it to be over the top sweet, but really it hangs on the palate rather balanced, not a ton of appreciable residual sugar even at temperature, and the bitter roast and coffee notes this has are plenty bold to keep this even, nicely built. shiny obsidian black in the glass with an inch of frothing mocha head, looks well refined and quite active for the style. more vanilla than caramel specifically in the nose, real natural and sort of wintery and cozy, even sexy, i get coffee too in the dark malt, and light cocoa as well, not overly decadent though, still stout first. the flavor is similar, but the caramel is a neat wrinkle, right in the middle of this, makes it rich and a little like dessert, but only for a second. it turns back to beer pretty fast, bitterness from the roast through the back half, warming like hot black coffee, and clean on the teeth when i swallow it, unlike so many of these, good restraint on the sweet stuff. more drinkable than anticipated, the label art makes it seem like more of a gimmick than it really is, i could have had a few of these, really uncommon for me with these sweet stouts. smooth fuller body, sits satisfying in the belly, nice chilly weather sipper!

Popping the can unleashes an onslaught of caramel and vanilla aroma even before the cola-colored pour produces that massive, rocky head. After staying for about five minutes, the head falls to what is actually a decently thick ring and a layer covering the surface. The residual foam clings spectacularly.

Did I mention the hefty caramel and vanilla smell? Yeah...that just keeps on giving. But underneath there is some nice coffee aroma and better yet I think I can smell me a stout...wow. OK...that's cool, but it is still a bit one-sided.

Tasting...yeah, diggin' this and the approach. Nowhere near as sweet as the nosebuds led me to believe. The caramel is certainly up front, but it isn't sledgehammer strong. A little vanilla. Nice, clean coffee and a touch of light chocolate. So it does have the creamy caramel machiato thing happening, but it is not overwhelming at all. Because guess what...the stout character clearly comes in to play as the initial coffee drink subsides with some roasted malts and an ever so mild hit of bitter. What a pleasant drinking beer...quite happily surprised. The machiato makes a return appearance on the finish, nice and smooth.

It is medium maybe even light bodied, adequately carbonated. Silky and smooth, almost a creamy feel. Not particularly drying, kinda neutral in that regard.

Well...a brewery I have never tried, but Jamil Z. - certainly a name I know from reading and home brewing. Very nice drinking beer, still thinking about it. The smell was a little misleading in setting expectations, but overall this is a good beer.

Might have picked up an old can date on the bottom says 10/12/21 but I think thats a best by date since I got it a month ago. Looks decent for a stout very dark opaque colored head not super stick or frothy but good head. Smells Pretty basic milk sugars some burn roasts not much caramel or coffee really. Taste is OK not getting any caramel or coffee to me its kind of coming off as a run of the mill milkstout. Body is slick and smooth but I fear the flavors may have aged a bit out of this one since I am not getting much of anything else.

Bought a single 16oz can $3.99 Village Bottle Shop
177 days old
Smell of caramel, chocolate
Dark black color
Heavy-medium kind of creamy mouthfeel
Low carbonation
Taste of caramel, bitter chocolate, weak coffee, artificial flavors
Overall ok. Not very complex, seems artificial. Doesn't have that deep roasted flavors I expect in a stout.

Sitting pretty the place where coffeehouse intersects brewpub, Heretic Brewing devises a fairly standard-strength stout with a popular coffee cocktail sipper.

Caramel Moo-chiato pours a dark coffee brown with a light mocha froth. Once settled into the glass, the Sweet Stout wafts about with caramel, vanilla cream and fresh roasted coffee in a nearly pastry-like tiramisu kind of way. As the first sip eases onto the tongue, a smooth and silky coffee and cream flavor seems to fit like a glove. Brown sugar, sweet cream, French vanilla and light chocolate blend into a seamlessly malty introduction.

As the dark ale extends across the middle palate, its silky smooth demeanor continues with a soft and rounded nougat character with a slightly more robust coffee edge. Easy going and drinkable like a yoo-hoo type of drink, the beer's effortless taste and texture has it closing with subtle hints of milkshake, kahlua and tiramisu once more.

Full bodied but certainly relaxed compared to the plethora of stronger and more robust stouts on the market, this pastry stout has a softer element of charm and finesse making it an easy drinker and a very pleasant session. The stout finishes with a creamy and pillowy lightness with a medium afterglow of coffee and cream.

Canned 10/14/20, into Bomb! Snifter.

Dark black with a tall mocha colored head of 2 fingers, receding to a fingernail and leaving no lace behind.

Smells like an artisan coffee drink from any local coffee place. Triple shot of caramel, some espresso, some dark chocolate, some biscotti. Incredible nose.

Flavor brings the coffee prominently - firstly in the form of hot black coffee, then it follows mid-palate to slightly melted caramel iced coffee. Hints of those vanilla creme-filled caramel chews as well. There's quite a bit of lingering acrid bitterness on the finish with I'd almost say a smoked malt twang. Loses some points on that one. Other flavors sampled at various times include caramel, milk, ash, and dark chocolate.

Feel is roasted and heavily carbonated (maybe due to age) with a hint of gritty char and some slight alcohol heat peeking through. I would really love to see some smoothness or slickness to this beer, to paint the full picture of an artisan coffee.

Overall, pretty impressive, I'd likely revisit if I saw it again even though it's a tad pricey for what it is. Gives off a nice coffee shop vibe.

From the 16zo can in a snifter. This solid little brew pours a nice
dark brownish black with dark tea highlights and a fantastic head of
khaki foam that settles to a thick ring, thin pooling layer, and sports some
exceptional lacing. Nose of caramel, brulee, char, and dark roast with
touches of coffee. Flavors follow the nose with dark coffee touches,
dark malt, moderate char, earthy malts, brulee, and rich caramel
and butterscotch notes. Nice mouth feel; medium full body, medium
light carbonation that is lightly prickly and mildly effervescent,
and a sweet caramel malt finish that finishes with a moderately
bitter malt finish.

Overall, a great introduction to the style for the milk stout
noob. That said it is overall a great brew in general.

Cheers

The last Heretic beer I drank was Goo, and it was okay. I love the label on the beer, and that is why I purchased it. I am a sucker for goofy or obscure artwork ( I collect beer labels). The beer is 40 degrees and served in a pint glass. The pour created a massive three-fingered head with excellent retention. The tan beer's head is airy, foamy, and creamy. The head slowly dissipated, leaving chunky lacing on the glass. The color is SRM 24, dark brown, nearly black. The appearance of the beer is beautiful.
Vanilla, toffee, caramel, milk, and dark roasted malts are the first aromas I sense. Next, I smell coffee, milk chocolate, earthiness, brown sugar, bready, crackers, with a touch of floral. The vanilla and the caramel shine bright, preventing me from detecting any other aromas.

The beer flavors are vanilla, caramel, toffee, chocolate cereal, dark roasted malts, a hint of char, earthiness, brown sugar, bready, coffee, and toasted crackers.

The mouthfeel of the beer is coating the tongue and creamy.

The body of the beer is medium-plus, low carbonation, and a full finish.

The aromas in the beer were more aromatic compared to the taste. That said, it does not distract from the beer at all. If the flavors matched the aromas, this beer would be difficult to drink. Awesome beer.

Can with illegible date into an imperial nonic pint.

L: Black with a brown hue, nearly 2 fingers of tan pillowy head with great retention and left smeared thick ringed lacing.

S: Nose is sweet, lots of vanilla and caramel.

T: Follows the nose well, but there's a metallic-like element making things taste synthetic, slight notes of roasted malt and coffee once it warms.

F: Medium bodied with medium carbonation, full yet dances on the tongue from the carbonation, full on the swallow.

O: Wanted to like it more than I did, couldn't get past the synthetic taste notes for my palate and preferences.

16oz can poured into a Melvin snifter.

A: Mostly opaque dark brown pour, reminiscent of cola with a loud & foamy khaki head that fizzles away.

S: Huge impressions of sugary-sweet root beer and cola; caramel and vanilla cream, coffee/espresso, sweet milk chocolate; molasses.

T: Follows the nose, this is reminiscent of root beer with plenty of caramel flavor, vanilla sweetness, cream soda, milk chocolate, with a mild underlying roast bitterness and iced coffee flavor.

MF: Fizzy carbonation leads to a medium bodied milk stout with plenty of sweet character throughout the mouthfeel.

O: Good; reminds me of an A&W Root Beer Iced Coffee.
