Our Belgian-Style Strong Dark Abbey Ale is robust and complex. Belgian yeast creates cherry, fig and citrus flavors that mingle with a wide range of malt flavors and a touch of spicy hops for balance. Traditionally served in special goblets, this Belgian style is a perfect accompaniment for a slow Sunday Sabbath afternoon.

Can from brought back from Kauai enjoyed at home.
Solid dark brown with a decent sized off white head that slowly dissipates. Rich bready caramel with bits of dark dried fruits and a touch of warming alcohol. Pretty good

really cool beer here, and neat to have it at the source right along with the golden sabbath, which is equally impressive. big strong belgian dark as the base, but done with local honey, which really to me is as defining an element in this as the belgian ale yeast, its not overly sweet on the whole, but the honey is there the whole way, a lovely and uncommon layer in a style like this. the pour is neither as dark or as belgian heady as anticipated, a low ring of off white foam on chestnut colored beer pushing mid brown, not black. the nose is great, floral just like the golden sabbath, with subtle grilled pineapple, daffodil, and restrained sweetness, great with the belgian yeast in both aroma and flavor, white pepper, coriander, anise seed or hyssop, really botanical and oddly light for what it is. the grain has wrinkles of molasses and richer abbey type malt, but its not as full or as heavy as a lot of takes on this style, light raisin and pipe tobacco as it warms, cocoa and trace roast on the low end, but the honey uplifts the whole thing and makes it bright, some pear and white wine character in the yeast too as it warms, really interesting and dynamic, even slightly weird, but im into it. late smoke is there. maybe not quite as delicate as the golden, but way interesting, i love how forward the honey is, how well hidden the alcohol is, and how original this comes across. was super impressed with this place, and this was among my favorite beers we had here, super cool use of the honey in this belgian style.

On tap. Caramel brown color. Beige head.

Plums, molasses, figs, caramel, cocoa. Belgian yeast and spice. Malty. Smooth. Tastes like a Belgian dubbel. Medium bodied. Pretty solid!

THIS TURNED OUT TO BE A VERY ENJOYABLE BEER LIKE IT'S SISTER VERSION THE GOLDEN ALE. A PLEASANT SURPRISE BECAUSE I DID NOT EXPECT TO SEE ANY BELGIAN BEERS WHEN I ENTERED THE LOCATION

While the White Porter may be better known, I actually liked their Dark Sabbath better. It poured a beautiful brownish, red in the Waimea sunlight. It smelled similar to most Belgium strong dark ales, but lacked some of the spice tones. The taste was a nice balance of spices. You can definitely make out the plum, fig and cherry flavors that mingle with the malts.
