Voice of the Turtle is a single-hopped session India Pale Lager brewed with Michigan-grown hops from Black Creek Hop Farms and wild Michigan lager yeast harvested from Lake Superior.
Named in honor of Ernie Harwell, this wonderful Michigan IPL is released every year on Opening Day, and will ring in Spring like only Ernie could:
“For, lo, the winter is past,
The rain is over and gone;
The flowers appear on the earth;
The time of the singing of birds is come,
And the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.”

For what it is and it's not an IPL, not labeled an IPL @ the brewery but for what it is I give it a 5. It was well done.
This is a "1984" pilsner with lemon grass and melon flavor, that is what the brewery labels it and they nail it. It is light and crisp yet super hoppy for a 5.3% abv beer. It's like a session IPA and for a light hoppy beer it ranks #1 when compared to the likes of Founders All Day IPA, Founders PC Pilsner, and Stone Ripper IMO. On a hot summer day and you need a thirst quencher, this is it.

Short Review. This one was good enough to warrant having another pint of, it's a tasty hoppy lager, the hop profile is nice and bright with just a little fruitiness. It's very crisp and very drinkable, just what I look for in the style. This is a very nice IPL, I recommend it.
