It's back! I alwYs look forward to May and the return of the Maibock. It's not retired at all. Just a Seasonal. 5/23/2011
Back in April, My cousin and I spent and afternoon in the biergarten. I made some notes, and am only now getting around to posting them.
A: Golden Amber color with reddish highlights and a thick creamy white head.
S: Malty aroma but ephemeral--not very strong.
T: Sweet malt and roasted malt combine well. Hops are subtle and finish on the back of the tongue.
M: Full mouthfeel.
D: A nice malty beer but not too sweet. Nice balance.

Appearance: Clear light amber color, with slight carbonation, and scattered broken lacing.
Aroma: Rather buttery, with hints of alcohol, a slight sweetness, and a faint herbal hop presence.
Taste: Strong butter (diacetyl) note at the open, followed by toasted malts, and a subtle chocolate presence. Towards the end of the taste, the flavor turns slightly tart, with a lingering herbal hop bitterness.
Mouth feel: A bit thin, with sharp, zesty carbonation.
Drinkability/notes: Moderately pleasing, by no means exemplary, but pleasant and drinkable.
