With a soft malt foundation providing the stage for bright, citrus hop aromas and a crisp finish, this pale ale will leave you feeling anything but foolish.

Poured into a tulip.

Pours amber--almost like iced tea. Solid head. Decent lacing--for a bit, but it is gone after not too long.

The aroma is almost like half and half Twisted Tea--a mixture of caramel malt and lemon. Hops definitely present in grassy/lemongrass form.

Flavor follows the nose. Plenty of caramel malt, which I appreciate even in an APA, but the iced-tea notes persist as a result. Lemon and grassy hops. Not as much hop intensity as some other reviewers despaired about, but this bottle is probably a month or so older than I would ordinarily prefer.

Extremely drinkable, even relative to its modest ABV.

An odd APA, but flavorful, and not terrible.

12 oz bottle in Michigan.

Appearance. Poured with an excellent off-white head that left sheets of lacing on the glass.

Aroma. Hop forward with citrus and herbal notes.

Bold for the style with excellent balance and moderate bitterness.

Pours amber in. Plot with an off white head. Nose slightly malty with a hint of pine. Taste was different. Had a lemon flavor to it but it faded. Small bitterness on backend

6/7/25 - (Bottle - Home) (Chicago, IL) Bottle Notes: Purchased May 22, 2025 at Beer on the Wall at store temperature for $2.84 including tax, refrigerated at home until opening this afternoon. 12 oz bottled April 30, 2025, 5.0% ABV. Pride and Joy Pale Ale. With a soft malt foundation providing the stage for bright, citrus hop aromas, and a crisp finish, this pale ale will leave you feeling anything but foolish. Brewed and bottled by Three Floyds Brewing LLC, Munster, Indiana.

Appearance: Poured all but an ounce or two into a shaker pint glass, yielding bronze tan unfiltered base with minimal carbonation. A creamy egg white head that lingers a bit and leaves soapy lacing and a sustained creamy cover over the base. It looks malty. 3.75

Aroma: Citrus, caramel and unsweetened ice tea with lemon. Medium strength, ice tea a bit unexpected, enjoyable. 3.5

Taste: Very consistent with the aroma,. Unsweetened ice tea with lemon neck and neck with the caramel malt, less "soft" than advertised on the bottle. Citrus hanging in there, but mostly a third wheel on this trip. 3.25

Mouthfeel: Dry and bitter, drinks at or perhaps a little lower than the listed 5.0%. Malt flavor strong, hops more felt than tasted, not sure about the source of this ice tea flavor, which I experienced once previous with Jai Alai, though that beer was dated and this only one five weeks old. Carbonation light, near flat. Ice tea lemon citrus finish. 3.25

Overall: Not sure if this bottle had issues in transit, but a below average Pale Ale for this stalwart. I like ice tea, though not necessarily via a beer tasting. Unlikely I return to this one. Average 3.0 score, though far below average on a 3 Floyds scale. 3.0

12oz. bottle poured in a room temp. pint glass.
Low, persistent head over a deep amber beer - very clear and inviting.
3Floyds signature aroma and flavor to follow. Malt sweetness with balanced hops nose of earthy, grassy spice.
Flavor again distinctly 3Floyds - caramel, toasted grain and grassy hop burnished into the malt.
Nobody does it quite like 3F's.
Balance and body imply something bigger than 5% - easy drinking with loads of flavor and character.
Balance up front, balanced in flavor, balance on the finish,
Very good in every way.

12oz can, dated 05.04.23, poured into a Three Floyds "Eye of the Beholder" pint glass. Enjoyed on 05.17.2023, reviewed from Tasting Journal.

The beer pours a honey color, amber and copper hues, slight haze, foamy off-white head with good retention and lacing. The aroma is nice, pale grain, doughy, earthy hop, herbal, nutty, caramel grain lingers. The flavors are nice, doughy, hearty amber malt, caramel grain, earthy hop, green pine bitterness, citrus peel, lightly floral, nuttiness lingers. The mouthfeel is good, coating, super smooth medium body, soft and crisp with a lightly dry finish.

Verdict: A nice pale/mild ale from Three Floyds. Easy, quaffable, refreshing.

Darker maple amber towards the top, and honey amber towards the bottom, all under khaki foam head of moderate height. Clarity is fairly high.

Oh the irony for what was once called a mild--this is an absolutely bonkers explosion of old school hops. It's anything but mild, now properly classified as a pale ale, though heavily in the Midwest or West Coast vein, giving huge grapefruit pith and pine resin through a more boldly malty, graham backbone.

Taste is a mature snack, substantial with a touch of citrus perfume, but the nose is a bit catty and musty.

Ten years ago, on draft at Hoppin' Frog, I gave this a 2.5. At the time, I was driven solely by big, bold flavors, especially those of the dark variety. Though this, too, was bold, perhaps it was the old school hop explosion I took issue with, as I was also more averse to bitterness than I am now. I find it more enjoyable now, though it certainly is a throwback to a period of time that's largely been lost today.

12oz bottled 05/03/24 poured into a tulip pint glass at fridge temp, no ABV listed on label. The beer pours mostly bright light amber with light khaki head. The head recedes to a thin ring and island leaving behind some spotty lace. The aroma is mild with caramel malt up front followed by pine and citrus. The taste is semisweet caramel malt with more pine and zesty lemony hops. Moderate bitterness. The feel is medium bodied with average carbonation and a mostly dry finish. Overall, good pale ale.
