This under darkian smoked lager is as bright as the magnificent glowing boulders in the stone forest. Brewed with water from the cenote. It will refresh the needing adventurers.

Ahh... is there a style on this website that is as perennially underrated as smoked beers?
Anyhow, this was on tap at the brewpub, and was served in a proper stein. It was a surprisingly bright, yellow pour with a large and billowing head.
The aroma was spritely, basically like a municher lager only with some smokey undertones. The smoke is light and does a fine job of accentuating the grain.
Tastes much smokier than it smells: sausage and peat all up front, giving way to a middle and finish that are a nice balance between a fruity Munich-style lager and a more traditional smoke beer. The interplay between flavors is complex and atypical but it's handled very well.

A: clear blond, nice tight foam
S: no smoky smell like there should be
T: better than the aroma... Nice smoky flavor, but not as strong as it should be
O: the light colored rauchbier's are always a bit different to me... This one is ok, but not special

Enjoyed on tap at Gerst Haus on a Summer night.
Appearance: Pale cloudy golden, with only a little lace.
Aroma: Smoky and crisp, even salty, like a well-cured smoked meat.
Taste: Crisp and refreshing and very heavy on the smoke flavors. A bit of heat on the finish, despite the low ABV. Very enjoyable for fans of rauchbiers.
