A rusty opaque brownish color with a small showing of a tan head. Nutty yeasty aroma dominates. Some smoke and roasted flavors seem to follow. This is quite sweet and then quite hoppy with a nutty smoky base. Lots of caramel and brown sugar lead the way. Roasted pecans follow. Pecan pie. Some smokiness lures itself underneath. Figs come and go. All of the sudden the hops emerge and leave a grassy smoky finish with a healthy amount of resiny goodness left behind. This was quite nice. They should bottle this.

Given to me in a imperial pint glass. Only a ring of foam was present on this beer. Color was dark, dark brown that you could still get some highlights through. Smell was a creamy, but with a slight nuance of hops. Not common for scotch ales, but nice nonetheless. Lots of great malt taste, but definetly more American in flavor than McEwan's or a Scotch ale from Scotland. Almost reminds me of walnut bread.

My first Scotch ale on tap and it was a very good first I must say. Head to FFF brewery before they switch it out for something else.

Had on-tap @ Three Floyd's Brewpub..

Listed at 8% on the beer menu.
Description: "A strong, Scottish style ale full of roasty malty goodness."

I gotta say their description is pretty spot-on. This is a malt-bomb in all aspects. Dark rusty brown color with a thin tan head. Aroma is full of dark fruits, sweet caramel, and thick roasted malt. There's a biscuity flavor as well that really blends in well with the ending hop bitterness. Most hop character is buried below a deep blanket of malty flavors, but not completely hidden. Mouthfeel is exceptional as this as about as smooth and creamy as a beer can get..remarkably no harshness at all considering the huge roasted qualities this brew has. Glad I got to try this great offering from the phenomenal brewery.
