Poured from a green-wax topped bomber into a Dogfish Head tulip

L: Inky black pour with no significant head. A thin rim of lacing lines the glass. Low carbonation.

S: Coffee and roast with a bit of vanilla.

T.F: Sweet, rich, and boozy. Roast grains, chocolate, vanilla, and char. Espresso... some sweetness from the moscato with a bit of vinous character. A little fruit, but mostly vanilla, chocolate, and sweets. Sticky and oily mouthfeel. Thick... low carbonation. Lingering sweetness and moscato. Did I mention boozy?

O: If you're good with a sweet dessert beer this is phenomenal. The moscato works well with the base brew, and the flavors come together nicely. Delicious... and a slow boozy sipper.

Appearance - The beer looked like Dark Lord, deep black in color with a mocha colored head.

Smell - The first clue that something was off waa the nose. In general, the beer smells more Earthy than vanilla.

Taste - Something was off. There was some sense of vanilla but it was dry and gritty. More than vanilla, I got sour green apple Jolly Ranchers. Clearly, this was not the brew master’s intent, but it did not entirely suck. It was not overly acidic, and still smooth.

Mouthfeel - The viscosity of motor oil that typifies Dark Lord was very real.

Overall - Though the beer was off, it was not entirely terrible and somewhat enjoyable.

091318 Bottle. Appearance is dark with minimal head. Fruitcake and coffee on the nose. Flavorful with strong grape, subtle sweet cherry, chocolate and nougat. Very tasty brew. Good combined effort Kev.

Look was as expected
Nose had a sour smell, sweet coffee
Taste was sour upfront that didn't last and mellowed as it warmed, middle was dark lord sweet, the vanilla showed up then too, the back end was were the coffee came through. Good bitter coffee.
Over all I enjoyed it. A good beer

750ml green wax bottle. Snifter glass. Dark black body, one finger mocha head, not much retention, bits of lacing. Smell is vintage Dark Lord- sweet brown sugar, a bit of bitter espresso and a buttload of the sweet muscat. It's overwhelmingly sweet and not particularly complex or balanced. This follows on the palate- very sweet, muddled, lots of fortified wine, sweet brown and white sugar, a bit of espresso. More muscat sweetness. Mouthfeel is medium fuller bodied, fair carbonation, tons of muscat sweetness on the finish rendering this a difficult one to finish a small pour of. Disappointing given how good the 2016 vintage was.
