Appearance - in fact, it looked like a stout. It was dark and impenetrable to light.

Smell - Ginger and lemon were quite strong in the nose, with the sweetness of Dark Lord.

Taste - This was bad. If Dark Lord were aged in Lemon Pledge barrels, I think this would be the result. Chocolate and ginger dominated the profile, and that was not a good combination. There were herbal undercurrents, just like freshly picked weeds. Even six years later, the ginger was still strong enough to linger.

Mouthfeel - The body of Dark Lord was standard.

Overall - This is the worst Dark Lord variant.

Bomber at share, 2018 vintage. Near black pour, thin beige head recedes. Aroma is fruitcake, fig, chocolate. taste is silky smooth, sweet, fruity with light savory notes and nice vein of chocolat. Bourbon notes throughout.

This is a Dark Lord variant from 2018. It's aged in brandy barrel with verbena, ginger + orange peel. I do like the original Dark Lord beer. It's a good barrel aged stout. This variant...sucked. The base beer was completely untastable. The only thing i could taste was the ginger. It was like sucking on a ginger root. This became my most expensive drain pour ever. I paid $150 for 3 original DL (very good), and 1 random (i.e. crap nobody bought) variant of DL. The beer's name "Greatest Teachable Moments" says it all. Well, lesson learned...never again.

Bottle: Poured a pitch-black color stout with a nice large dark brown foamy head. Aroma of verbena and brandy with some molasses and black chocolate notes are also perceptible in the aroma. Taste is a mix of verbena, some Brandy barrel notes with huge amount of residual sugar with some very light molasses and black chocolate notes. Body is full with syrupy notes and good carbonation with limited alcohol showing. Very enjoyable and surprised the verbena worked as well.

This beer is literally the perfect pairing for sushi. It has an unbelievable amount of in your face fresh ginger.

This beer completely missed the mark for me.

The flavor is an intense ginger concentrate, washed down with overly bitter waves of dark chocolate and hints of foul soy sauce. As it warms, it becomes a one dimensional ginger-heavy stout with no real redeeming qualities.

If you enjoy strong ginger flavors and bitter stouts, this beer might work for you.

Overall, this was a very polarizing beer that I had to give a thumbs down to.
