Appearance - The beer poured a deep black color with a half inch dark tan had crowning the pour.
Smell - scotch released her out. The sweetness of Dark Lord combined with peat.
Taste - At the front, a scotch became obvious. Smoke was also noted. The dark Lord was rich with sweetness of molasses. It was like drinking a good scotch with a much bigger body. The party allowed the characteristics of the scotch to linger. I was amazed at how well the barrel and Dark Lord linked.
Mouthfeel - Dark Lord had serious viscosity.
Overall - The negative notes are from people who wanted a desert variant from Dark Lord Day. Scotch lovers will really like this beer.

Split bottle 65 of 443 with my buddy last night. I was secretly looking forward to Turtledogging it up despite the ridicule of this neckbeard community. I don't particularly like Islay scotch but honestly I think the cloying nature of Dark Lord really needs something bold like peated scotch flavors to crack through the sweet soy saucey base beer. And sure enough it delivered!!! Both of us found it kind of strange at first but as it warmed up it grew on me and the whole experience was overall very unique but pleasant. Not sure I'd want to do this again any time soon but I definitely drank half of the bomber, which is wayyyyy more than I've ever had of any regular Dark Lord.
Thumbs up for bold flavors!!!

Pours jet black with no foam on pour. Aroma is... very smokey. Peaty. Woody. All of these are also present in the flavor but maybe a bit muted. There is no semblance of Dark Lord base in this. The flavor got better as I drank along, but then it got pretty difficult to drink by the end. I will say that the mouthfeel was think and viscous like other DLs.
This is such a bizzare beer. If you like Scotch, this will undeniably deliver. But if you don’t... there’s still enough there to try out of curiosity without being a fan. It actually was ‘better’ than I thought it would be.

Boy, is this beer a challenge. Pop the top, smoky aromas immediately on the nose - literally from a foot away. The pour is as expected, jet black with a dark tan head.
In the glass, the smoke is present on the nose, but there’s also an aroma that is quite simply a log. Time to step back and let this (and me) breathe.
The taste has the smoke up front, and a smidge of the log, and thankfully the base beer sweetness at the end of the taste to pull things back into “normal.”

This is probably the most polarizing of this year's releases. It's getting bashed on Untappd but if you're familiar with Islay or heavily peated Scotch, this IS Islay Scotch. It's just a level below Lagavulin smoke. It isn't straight campfire but I also don't think it's bandaids like I've read other people say. A friend last night described it as having an Ardbeg quality of peat to it. If you're into peaty Scotch this is a fine example of what a barrel can do to a stout. If you don't like peaty Scotch this won't be the beer for you.

L: Just like any BA Dark Lord, completely black like motor oil with brown head that dissipates quickly.
S: Nice peaty notes, not as strong as a Goose Island Islay and nowhere near as potent as Dia Oscuro.
T: Scotch and the sweetness from the base beer meld nicely. Again, not as potent and it doesn't numb your throat like Dia.
F: Thick as any DL.
O: This beer was polarizing. Half of the group wouldn't finish their pours but the scotch lovers were happy to drink the rest. I hope this becomes a staple in the future line ups.
