At long last, we bring you our take on a hazy IPA. It’s no secret that most of our portfolio is hop-forward, flavorful and unfiltered. With Barbarian Haze, we took the hopping protocol a bit further, using some new age brewing alchemy coupled with our old school heavy handed approach. Fans of the style will recognize the complex soft malt character that helps balance the generous hop additions for supreme drinkability.

Hops: Simcoe, Citra, Mosaic. Double Dry-Hopped.

A: hazy; deep gold in color; 1+ finger finely pored ivory head that receded to a thin cap; very nice lacing;

S: a first for me - what I smell is predominantly pretzel; there's some citrus there as well; mostly grapefruit;

T: orange, lemon, and pineapple from start to finish; mild to moderate bitterness at the end;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: very interesting aroma;

Orange fizzy head stays around a while. Lacing is really nice.

Mango and malt on the nose.

Taste is a nice blend of citrus and tropical fruits. Grapefruit peel bitterness on the back end.

Feels light and foamy.

I like this but it's somewhat more brutal than a typical NEIpa. But then, it's called Barbarian.

Hazy, golden color. Citrus, malt, and tropical fruits in the aroma. Moderately sweet with a decent hoppy bitterness at the end. A solid beer with plenty of flavor.

Barbarian Haze pours a hazy, copper color with a medium-sized, long-lasting head. The aroma has nutty, earthy notes. The aroma has some citrus notes, with bigger nut and earth notes and a bitter finish. Good feel. Overall, it is a flavorful yet well-balanced hazy IPA that does lean on the bitter near the end.

Mango, hints of citrus & passionfruit on the nose. Palate is crushable and smooth; hops are resiny but don’t leave any overly bitter linger, with citrus rind & red berries on the finish.

A golden orange glow is opaque (SRM 5-6). One inch of dense foam forms above the bulge of a Harp nonic glass. The head has a pale orange tint and leaves thin tight rings of lace.

Hops are strong and earthy, followed by hay. Other aromas include mango, tangerine, and faint pineapple.

Mild bitterness slowly builds, becoming strong in a drawn-out finish. There is barely any sweetness amidst strong grassiness. There are minimal fruits, with papaya being the only clearly identifiable one. Once the bitterness gets going, it becomes quite strong and stays just this side of pleasant.

A full body and the texture of soft wool. Alcohol is above expectations. The bitterness and mild astringency have a numbing sensation on the mouth and gums. It is very dry, with soft, yet ample, carbonation.

This is a decent summer beer which I am enjoying after a rare, short, workday. It would easily pair with a hot day; however, this afternoon is pleasantly cool. I would say this is more in the West Coast camp of IPAs.

Look: hazy golden with a thick white head

Aroma: citrus, tropical fruit, pine

Flavor: The flavor is citrus, grapefruit, orange and tropical fruit, pineapple, mango. It has a significant pine resin & grapefruit bitterness at the end, and it is well balanced.

Body/Overall: medium body, I think it is pretty good

Pours a very hazy, completely opaque, bright slightly orangish gold. Good sized persistent head. Smell is very hoppy, mainly citrus. Taste is citrusy and piney hops as well. Bitterness up front and through to the aftertaste. There's not much of that tropical hop taste that has come to define these NEIPA's- there's just a touch of it really. I'm really enjoying the bitterness and I'm getting tired of overly fruity NEIPA's. Despite the hops and bitterness, this feels rather smooth and it's compulsively drinkable. Nice mouthfeel.
