A traditional and eerily smooth stout, Spooky Top features aromas of roasted chocolate malt mixed with just the right amount of residual sweetness to balance the mouthfeel.

Thinking that the "American" stout was a thing of the past, 3 Floyds drags out this supposedly dead style and injects new life. Its like the ghost of craft beers past.
Dark bark brown and nearly black to the eye, Spooky Top rounds off with a creamy lightly tanned froth. As its roasty scent rolls from the rim, the nose is caught with dark roast coffee, a whiff of cocoa, roasted nuttiness and a hint of toasted spruce. Medium sweet to start, a lighter flavor of sorghum, brown sugar, caramel and toffee can be found in the malt structures and early on the tongue.
As the flavors stretch onto the middle palate, its sweetness starts to relax and the darker aspects of roast allows the flavors of dark coffee, bittersweet chocolate, roasted walnuts and char to provide a savory taste to overtake the malts midway through the sip. Continuing dry, bitter and roasty, the dark ale concludes with a broad and piney bitterness that remains roasty throughout.
Medium bodied and full in flavor, the beer's body is considerably full compared to most and more imperialized stouts that saturate the market. This sensible stout risks taking on a thin and watery mouthfeel before finishing dryly roasty with an extension of coffee and charred woods.
