Notes:
A categorically big Double IPA brewed to honor our little friends and their clandestine meetings. Intensely bitter with notes of citrus, grapefruit and orange marmalade.

Served in a Tulip from the can.
Appearance: Semi hazy ber color with a white head which rose half a fingers length off the body. Medium bubbles to the frame which settles quickly.
Smell: caramel aroma. Hits the nose softly. You feel the hops accompanied with a warm cane sugar note.
Taste: Has a complex hip feel, you taste slight sugar and sweety malt in the brew. Oatmeal and lightly hoppy.
Mouth: Soft carbonation, sticky body which comes off a touch dry.
Overall: Drank this so many times and did t realize I never reviewed it. Honestly it's an awesome beer. West Coast style mixed with slight warmer new England feel.

Draft pour into a pint glass.
Hazy clean orange gold appearance with moderate head and good retention. Nose is peach pineapple tangerine. Taste is the same with a balanced malty sweetness, and hop oils. Mouthfeel is full, creamy, and moderately carbonated. Great DIPA.

3 Floyds Brewing Co. "Cat Date"

Notes via stream of consciousness: So what is "Cat Date"? It's a double IPA at 9.5% ABV... that's all it says, well, except for "A categorically big Double IPA brewed to honor our little friends and their clandestine meetings." I hope it doesn't taste like tuna. It's poured a very hazy deep golden body beneath an inch and a quarter of densely foamy off-white. The aroma is not that bright, even for a double IPA where the malt tends to cover up some of the hops. I'm getting some orange, a hint of pine, some apricot, and bready malt but that's about it. Of course aroma isn't usually the strong suit of a double IPA so let's give it a taste. There's a little more to it there but nothing that'll really open your eyes. I'm going to say tangerine, apricot, apple, pine, papaya, and some peppery spiciness and earthiness. The alcohol is noticeable as well, although that certainly doesn't bother me in a double IPA at 9.5%, I pretty much expect it. It's solidly bitter and it finishes dry, peppery, earthy, piney, and fruity. It lingers for a long time until just the bitterness remains. It's a little bit on the acidic side which is odd, but that might be from the acids in a whole lot of hops. In the mouth it's medium-full in body and gently crisp. The head held up well and it's left some very nice lacing behind. All in all I find it decent enough, and if you like your IPAs to have some bitterness to them, the way they used to be, this one's got that. It's good but it's not great.

Copper colored with excellent clarity. There’s a quarter inch of densely packed, tightly packed and closely knit brown on top. Heavy lacing. The aroma is of melon, lime, and melon. I’m tasting catty hops with earthy melon, lemon, and lime. The mouth is resinous, very sticky, and dry.

16 oz. can, date on the bottom is too tiny to read and at 9+% who cares.
Dedicated to cats I guess.
I like cats but, they're not dogs so... whatever.
Pours beautifully, a hint of chill haze, light amber color, dense white head that never flagged and left speckles of lace behind it's slump.
The aroma would be my only dis - weak for 3F's but still with the signature malt -hop balance of caramel notes and mild citrus.
The flavor was timid up front when cold but filled out as the beer came up to temp.
Rich and malty. creamy malt blending with sharp acid hop bite that carries through to the end.
Body is medium - full, undermined a bit by the dominant hot hop character.
Not as balanced, ie, malt forward as other 3F's IPA's but still a solid example from one of my favorite US breweries.
Finish is long and dry with a tickle of alcohol.

great outfit, definitely a good beer. haven't seen it before so pleased to try it. flavor profile is a bit weird for me but ok. packaged 5/31/22, consumed 8/4/22.
L: from the can & it's a weirdly beautiful can
S: mostly sweet, orange and papaya.
T: starts sweet, then goes strongly bitter. like eating the citrus fruit then ending with a bite of the pith. comes off interesting but odd on my palate.
F: smooth, rich
O: i like it but now and again rather than a regular part of the rotation.

A - Clear dark gold pour with frothy creamy, lacing and moderate carbonation.
S - Citrus and orange dominate the nose with orange being the dominate aroma.
T - A slight sweet malt base gets quickly buried with citrus, some orange, and red grapefruit bitterness. Ends slightly on the more bitter side with some lingering citrus bitterness.
M - Big body that's thick and silky with a semi-dry finish. Dry on the back of the tongue and wet around the front of the mouth.
O - I'm really impressed with this beer, especially at two months old. It's held up really well with some nice bitterness. I'd buy this one again.

An old school DIPA that you don’t see many of anymore. 3 Floyds knows what they are doing with this style. Pine, melon, citrus; big caramel-y malt backbone (brings me back to 2012!). Have had a few 3F DIPAs lately, since they now are distributed to the east coast— this is up there with Dreadnaught.
