Obsidian black with a short, fuzzy tan head that dies a bit more quickly than standard Dark Lord.

Yeah, that "single malt" is DEFINITELY Islay Scotch, but for me it works... Well, perhaps after the initial shock, as it always takes a minute to get your bearings when this character is imparted within beer.

It's definitely ashy, leafy, peaty, and smoky, but in good measure, to my palate, helping to balance the sweet viscosity of Dark Lord well.

Appearance - In the usual Dark Lord fashion, the beer was oily, black, with a dark tan head topping the glass.

Smell - The barrel notes were not as strong as I would have anticipated. However, it was evident that this was barrel aged Dark Lord.

Taste - The malts were forward in the initial taste. It was not bitter, having notes of molasses, chocolate, and cherry. The rum barrel notes were modest, which kept them from being offensive. The sweetness of the whiskey barrel was pleasant.

Mouthfeel - The body was thick enough to cut the tongue and linger with chocolatey bourbon goodness.

Overall - This was a very good variant.
