I normally don't love fruited stouts but this one was great. Smooth and delicious all the way through.

Appearance - The beer was oily, black in appearance, with dark tan bubbles, crowning the pour.
Smell - The nose was very raspberry forward. They were more traditional notes of Dark Lord sweetness as well.
Taste - The raspberry presence was very strong. It was well done and did not seem artificial. Fruited stouts are not a favorite of mine, but I did not mind this one. An undercurrent of molasses, red grapes, and chocolate was also evident. Raspberries lingered to the finish.
Mouthfeel - It seemed like this was a bit thinner than other variants, but it was still thick.
Overall - By far, this was my least favorite 2023 variant.

Raspberry Diamonds was our first sip at Dark Lord Day 2023, on draft no less, and we were able to just walk right up and get it.
I was anticipating a little pink tinge to it, but the appearance doesn't distinguish itself from any other DL, as its tan, fluffy quarter pipe-ridged blanket settles over that void black liquid.
I find the flavor profile to be a bit of a conundrum. The sweet raspberry tang both pairs really well with Dark Lord, but also brings out its old school notes of hickory roast in ways I haven't actually experienced in several years, though I hate to say that because I usually don't actually associate those flavors with what I personally believe to be a very good stout. While they do accent here or there, this is a unique combination despite all that, and a pretty tasty one to boot.
---
I got to get a second whack at this on draft at Winking Lizard in September and I'll be damned if this wasn't stark validation that Raspberry Diamonds is indeed a banger, even more so having it on a fresh palate. I'm getting far less hickory and so much more chocolate. It's an absolutely delicious exhibit of raspberry sticks with a maturing tang and bittering of rye barrel. This is even better than the 4.34 I originally gave it.
---
From my bottle at home in 2026, it re-validates my original experience at the fest, as it's back to a raspberry accent to the base old school boldness of the most intensely malty, woody versions of DL.
