Had on tap 4/29/2009 into a snifter/tulip type glass
Poured a deep black color with a minimal head that didn't last too long. Left a bit of a skim that could slightly be revived with a good swirl. No lacing to speak of.
Aroma was dominated by mixed berries (I think this was aged on Blackberries if it's the same beer that I had at a beer dinner there a few months ago), a slight roast character, and a light woody character.
Taste had some chocolate up front but it the original Alpha Klaus flavor is pretty much nonexistent here. The berry flavor is there for sure, it's slightly tart, along with some woody character. A bit of a roasty astringency towards the finish.
Mouthfeel is medium bodied, pretty smooth, nothing to complain about.
Overall this is a very disappointing beer. Alpha Klaus is a great beer. Alpha Klaus Barrel Aged with Blackberries sounds awesome but it just doesn't work. I'd take the regular over this any day.

On tap @ FFF the day after DLD 2009.
A- Pours black with off-white head that leaves a very small amout of lacing around the tulip.
S- Black berries, black liquorish, dark fruit, oak, alcohol.
T - Similar to the nose but with a little more alcohol on the finish and a good amount of tart throughout.
M - Medium to full, rich and smooth, creamy finish.
O - Enjoyable in limited amounts. The beer is very rich and it's not something I'm going back to over and over. Would def have again and enjoyed the blackberries for something different.
Edit: This review was moved from an original Barrel Aged Alpha Klaus that was mixed with all sorts of variations.

I had this one on tap at the FFF brewpub on 1/22/2009. It was a blackberry barrel aged Alpha Klaus.
A= This porter poured a very dark brown/black color with a small 1/2" light tan head. The head quickly disappeared completely and did not leave any lace behind.
S= Aromas of sweetness, treacle, dark fruit/berries, whiskey, and tons of alcohol.
T= Before the whiskey crashed over everything, there was a pleasant sweet malt profile coupled with flavors of berry and chocolate. When the whiskey did come in, this beer changed completely and became very alcoholic and less complex. Finish was all alcohol and slightly astringent roasted grain.
MF= Medium bodied with a moderate carbonation level.
D= I don't think this beer is a good match for barrel aging. The barrel masked the best of the Alpha Klaus but still allowed the worst aspects to shine through. Not a terrible beer by any means, just not a very drinkable one.
