Thanks to noblepudding who sent this 750ML bottle to me for a couple of handwritten poems. So to speak. Bottle 2520 of 4000. And a nice label.
Black. Head retires quietly. Nose is mostly roast & sugar cane.
French Vanilla Milita (2024) harks back to the bad old days of Dark Lord. This is tremendously sweet; luckily, I eat handfuls of chocolate chips for snacks. Vanilla pounds the palate immediately, backed by unusually sweet cocoa nibs that bear only a trace of sharpness. The cocoa merges slowly with the espresso; really nice. It could use even more of the roast as an offset. The bourbon? A gentle suggestion in the back of the throat, buoyed by a riotous booziness that builds as the evening shadows lengthen (OK, the sun went down seven hours ago). Rough. But I’ll get through this beast.
This doesn’t touch the ancient ones that are the old Dark Lords; it’s a mockery, an imitation at best. More bourbon. More espresso. Bring the heat or go home, 3 Floyds. Still. Very nice brew.

The nose seems roasty with dark fruit, but taste is both more decadent yet also more mature, with a solid whiskey punch. I even think this is the first time where FVM seems closer to Handjee than anything else, giving some gooey marshmallow characteristics behind the mocha and bourbon char.
