A distinctive, woody, fruity tripel ale, with strong character: its clear and very particular taste comes from work done with yeasts.

Dark , clear amber pour. Woody and sweet. Caramels, molasses and cane sugar on nose. Taste follows, with slightly syrupy feel. ABV of 9.5 is well masked but comes through a sherry like taste and tartness, like it has been aged in a sherry cask. Not bad at all, if a little thin.

Beautiful copper color, very clean. Ivory colored foam, good.
The smell is like the classic 3 Monts, but more intense. Malt, light biscuit, caramel, toffee. Fruit (medlar).
Very nìmalty taste, even a bit too much. Toffee, red fruit, wild strawberry.
Apricot/peach under spirit.
Full body, again, even too much. Rich fruitiness, esters, yeast. Warmth.
Not an easy beer, but full of character.

Rating from notes, 2012: 750ml bottle picked up at Cora-Forsbach. Pours out a light amber color, thick, creamy head, chunky lacing. Aroma brings forth Belgian yeast, pit fruit, some light pastry sweetness. Taste is more of the sweetness up front, light brandy notes, rich, deep malt character, some of the alcohol making itself apparent. Taste lingers for a bit, with a bit more of the alcohol heat warming the gullet. Really solid. Makes me miss my monthly trips to Cora.

Pours a nice golden body (clear) with moderate head. Head is gone in a flash to be honest and loses a quarter point. Some lacing, but not in the awesome category.
Aroma has a Smokey finish, almost tobacco, yeasty and peaty. A characterful brew on the nose, and wills you to dive in for a swig.
Taste is fruity and malty, like a ripe banana bread, with grapefruit. I can see why some reviews rate this high on the taste factor.
Feel is a let down, very watery, yet fizzy on the tongue. It does hide the bold 9.5% abv completely.
Overall, I would say a good beer, which is just shy of very good. Definitely worth a try, and one of the better northern French bottle conditioned farm type brews.

A 750ml bottle picked up in Northern France on a recent trip to Belgium. 9.5% alc. vol. Pours a clear golden copper colour with a foamy head. Aromas of fruit, yeast & alcohol. Taste is sweet, fruity, hoppy, yeasty with sighs of the alcohol content & mild bitterness in the aftertaste.

3 Monts Grand Reserve
Bought from my local Paris supermarket for about 3 Euros 50 for 750ML
Look is golden red with a quite short lasting head.
Aroma is similar to Polish Mochne beers with a hint of apple.
Unique taste. Different to beers that I have had before...though have only ever tried Gavroche from this brewery before.
The alcohol content is not noticeable from the taste...a good sign as it shows that the brewers have succeeded in the execution of their original raw materials.
In terms of the taste, it is sharp and balanced...there is not as much happening as there is in other fruity beers like Duvel or Delirium Tremens. Plus the overall flavour is simply not as interesting or exciting as many Belgian beers...
Because of the wheat content, it feels heavier than a non-wheat beer. So I would probably not want to drink much more than one 750ml bottle. Wheat is fairly common in French beer, and for me it is better to leave the wheat out. All the main French beers contain it, yet most French beers are not well regarded internationally, unlike Belgian.
Overall, I prefer Gavroche to this one. Gavroche seems to have a more intense, deeper flavour. Though I will buy again and compare side by side, so this could be edited soon...
Overall - good balance of flavour, though simply not enough flavour, despite the alcohol content. Surprising, they should leave out the wheat and I think it would improve.
Belgian beers are more my thing however, French simply do not come close, no idea why this is...

Pours a light amber or deep straw with red hues. Big head and good lacing. Appears to be filtered. Nose is somewhere between a strong pale, saison, and triple. Light esters along with fruity malt notes. Taste is fruity and malty. Real depth and ridiculous drinkability for a 9.5% beer. Really a treat from a brewery that had previously let me down with their standard offerings.
