Murky, mahogany color. Medium-sized, off-white head. Cherries, raisins, wood, and some alcohol in aroma. Sweet taste with moderate bitterness at the end. Full body. Very close to desert wine.

22 ounce bottle into a tulip snifter. Bottled 9/16/16, had 12/12/18. Searched for some info on this, since the label is just noise, and it appears to have been aged for 10 months in rye whiskey and bourbon barrels.

Pours a dark amber, a little ruby in the light, cloudy with a half inch head and some spotty lacing. Aromas of figs, some tobacco, dates, malt, oak, toffee, brown sugar, raisins, rye, some plums and cherries, light rye whiskey and port. Has a sweet and spicy aroma overall. The flavor generally lines up the same- caramel, toffee, figs, malt, raisins, tobacco, oak, dates, rye, some port as it warms, light rye whiskey, light cherries, a little vanilla, a hint of bourbon when fully warmed. Fairly sweet, but not cloying. Ridiculously smooth for the ABV, a great full body, well carbonated.

27 months in the bottle and this almost drinks like a liqueur. Terrific aroma and great flavor, both very complex and expressive. The aging has mostly blurred the identification of any barrels that were used, and if this was supposed to be tart, it wasn’t now. But, this was really good.

22oz bottle. Poured out a clear, dark brown color with a small, off-white head of foam. It smelled of tart cherry, bourbon, oak and sweet toffee. Weirdly this is actually a tart barleywine. Boozy, malty and also tart.

22oz bottle into Libbey Tulip
No date but from Dec 2016
L- dark brown with reddish hues, thin fizzled out white head
S- bourbon, cherries, strawberries,
T- sweet super sweet malt, followed by tart berry jam, and sweet bourbon finish
F- thick and syrupy, a real sipper, the 16.7% ABV makes this drink like a whiskey
Overall a real 'different' beer, totally takes Barleywine to a different level, but even at about a year and a half can still use some time to mellow out

look: Clear copper. Substantial reddish tan head on the pour that mostly recedes.
smell: Tart, you ain't kidding. Sour with the Barleywine notes taking a back seat.
taste: Wow, flavors are expertly melded. Strong toffee, malty, vanilla of the Barleywine assert themselves with authority and the tart becomes an interesting spice. Amazingly drinkable.

22 oz brown bottle - [code 260]

Shmaltz Brewing Hebrew Genesis 20:20 is dark brown - well, so dark that is almost black. A 1/2-finger tan head was formed but quickly shrunk to a ring of foam in my snifter. The aroma of dark malts, dark fruits with alcohol making an appearance. The taste is complex [as the smell] and is dominated by dark malts and fruits. The flavor of raisins, plums, is first up followed by sweetness from caramel and brown sugar. A mild tart dark cherry is present at the finish. Mouth feel is full bodied, has light carbonation, smooth, sticky, and a little like cognac. There is only a mild alcohol warming - amazing for such a high ABV.

Genesis 20:20 is a complex and highly drinkable ale. This "heavy hitter" makes for a GREAT nightcap.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 9/16/2016. Pours fairly crystal clear deep reddish brown color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense and fluffy light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin lace cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of huge raisin, plum, fig, date, cherry, apricot, pear, red apple, red grape, port wine, vanilla, toasted oak, leather, tobacco, caramel, brown sugar, and toasted brown bread; with lighter notes of toffee, nuttiness, roast, herbal, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Mild booze in the aromas as it warms, but not overwhelming. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready malts, fruity yeast, port barrels, and light-moderate earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of huge raisin, plum, fig, date, cherry, apricot, pear, red apple, red grape, port wine, vanilla, toasted oak, leather, tobacco, caramel, brown sugar, and toasted brown bread; with lighter notes of toffee, nuttiness, roast, herbal, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate herbal/peppery hop bitterness and oak/wine tannin spiciness on the finish. Really mild tartness. Lingering notes of dark fruits, apricot, pear, red apple, red grape, port wine, vanilla, toasted oak, leather, tobacco, caramel, brown sugar, toasted brown bread, toffee, nuttiness, herbal, pepper, and yeast/toasted earthiness on the the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malts, fruity yeast, port barrels, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with an awesome malt/bitterness and wine/oak spiciness balance; with zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from bitter/spiciness. Light-medium carbonation and full body; with a smooth, creamy/bready, fairly sticky/tannic, and lightly slick/syrupy balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is well hidden; a moderate increasing warmth, and mild booze interning after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic barrel aged American barleywine! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malts, fruity yeast, port barrels, and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to sip on for the huge ABV. Massively complex with perfectly balanced yeast, malts, and port barrel character; without being overly bitter/hoppy. A highly enjoyable offering.

Going full nightcap on this! Paid 11 bucks for the bomber marked down from 16 into a standard pint. Personally I expected a bit more thickness to it but it did have a nice tiny bit of head that faded which I didn't expect for the octane. Color is about as dark as brown can get!
Smell is super tart tons of brett, some plums and other dark fruits and a hint of cherry/vinegar. Taste is WOW sweet rum soaked cake covered in honey sweetness in the finish! Next to no ABV burn but it is there and creeping with a very smooth brandy like finish. Mouthfeel is better than expected not hot as all just a slightly warming ABV that will creep up on you as I type with a 1/4 of the bomber down!

Overall one of the BEST beers I have had all year and I WILL be back at the beer shop tomorrow to pick up another bottle because it's SO GOOD!

Deep brown pour into snifter with hues of red, no expected head and none to report. Not many barrel notes on nose. Smell the sweetness, malty raisin, plum, a hint of cinnamon. Taste is big chewy cognac/brandy soaked fruit cake. I regret taking this on by myself with just first 1/2 glass pour. Not much heat for abv. Mouthfeel is obliterated by sweetness mouth is coated like a good cough syrup. It's sticky, not tart, which is my only downer (although tart beers aren't my thing) Overall it's good, but to future drinkers-read my sticky lips: SHARE. Not the abv that gets to me as much as the lack of a sweet-tooth.

Clear brown pour, headless with fair lacing and a body fairly rich-looking.
Smells like sweet molasses malts, with nuttiness and a kick of burn from the booze.
Tastes like the nose, with ample malt and some hop notes, sweet but not too much. A big beast but balanced. The barrel is there, and it's hard to tell what type was used. The tart is subtle, which is great because I didn't think I'd like any tartness whatsoever in a barleywine, but if it could be pulled-off, Schmaltz is one brewery to do it. It works.
Robust, sweet woody molasses, and a very nice drinkability given the high strength. Medium mouthfeel. At about 12 bucks for the bomber is not a bad value either.

I can't even... that's a fantastic beer! Had this at Clubhouse BFD a week or two back. Wanted something with balls -- this was one of my choices.

This is a very one-of-a-kind beer, I found. It's labeled a Barleywine, but it didn't taste like one I've ever really experienced before. There's a tartness to it with a craveable, "I wanna pound it." sweetness and near, dare I say, drinkability to it -- but I found myself needing to slow down and sip. Vanilla, dark fruits, barrel... the "usual suspects," but something about the tartness and sweetness combined to round it all out is blissful.

Granted, the label is GOD AWFUL, the beer is truly one of the better beers I've had this year -- nay, period.
