16 oz can from Brewers Haven. Dark brown pour, foamy head fades to flat. Aroma hits first with some booziness, sweet malts linger underneath. Malty taste too, not to far off from a Barleywine. Latent warmth hangs in the chest for a while.

16 ounce can into a tulip snifter. Had 1/20/20.
Pours a mahogany color, semi opaque, with a half inch foamy head and some foamy lacing. Aromas of malt, caramel, dates, some wine, grain, light yeast, a little smoke. Manages to have a light hop aroma, a generally sweet aroma and a fruity aroma when warm. Flavors of malt, caramel, a little bread, some wine as it warms, kind of a fruity flavor- cherries, for one, a light hop bitterness on the finish. Smooth, a good medium body, well carbonated.
It’s interesting. Doesn’t take a stand on what it’s trying to be, very unfocused. But, if you forget about that and don’t try to fit it in somewhere, it’s not bad. Very good aroma, the flavor is good but lacking something. I’ve had 3 or 4 years of this and this one isn’t up to par. Have one more can, we’ll see how it is a few years from now.

Served in a snifter glass from the can.
Appearance: Dark brown tinted amber which seems slightly opaque with medium bubbles creating an off white head rising maybe half a finger's length with a hard pour.
Smell: alcohol scent consisting of caramel and malts, it's light and yeasty undertone is not reminiscent.
Taste: I will tell you this it is complex consisting of honey, malts, and a yeasty bread feel.
Mouth: Sticky but dry, light sour finish at the end. Medium carbonation with a full body only as the beer warms closer to room temperature.
Overall: Good brew but better out there. Lots of room for tweaking, it feels somewhat like an under finished lambic or flemish beer. You be the judge....Salud!

crazy that they canned this thing, a pretty ambitious beer for a can, brewed with 11 malts and 11 hops, which to me was a novelty about five vintages ago, now its just absurd. even in the earlier days of this annual release, i found the beer a little sloppy, a little kitchen sinky, and that has only advanced as the beer has been packed with more and more ingredients. it drinks like a hopped up american barleywine, although i do get some interesting grain depth to this particular vintage, a dry spiciness, must be some pale rye in the mix. there is some complexity in that there is a whole lot going on in it, but some of the elements seem kind of disparate, like they dont go together very well, and part of that is the heavy caramelized sweetness of the grain overall against the bitter hoppiness and fruit tones the hops contribute, like, grapefruit flavored toffee and tropical fruit glazed rye bread are weird flavor pairings, doesnt make a ton of sense. heavy sugars here, lots of alcohol, but also a surprisingly high carbonation which really helps this drink. a rich amber color is pretty, and the whole thing is a little less sticky and sloppy from an execution standpoint than i remember, but its also a bit of a mess in terms of the recipe. i cant imagine what this beer will look like in another ten years when literally every available ingredient has to go into it. interesting idea here, but this one isnt really for me...
