perhaps its cool that the alcohol content of this beer is the same as their area code or whatever, but if thats what these guys are relying on to make their beer cool, and there is very little here to suggest otherwise, than thats pretty sad. i cant remember how many years its been since i have actually liked a beer from these guys, but its been way too many. this is fine, but its so samey, and unfortunately a little dated it seems by the time it got to my lips, cant blame the brewery for that, but what i can blame them for is being followers instead of leaders with this one, for using what seems like the same darn hops everyone else is, someone tell me what makes this beer unique or special, because it sure isnt the quality, and the flavor just tastes like what breweries think people want because they read beer blogs or whatever. maybe thats too harsh, and this is just another underachieving hazy at best, perhaps this is just a victim of my fatigue for the style, and beers like this in the style, but maybe it actually is more than just symbolic of a style issue and a misfire on a trend, maybe this really just isnt very good beer. sure i get some mosaic type hops with canned pineapple and an orange bent, sure i get the pillowy mouthfeel (this actually has a good texture and nice carbonation), sure i get the use of something other than barley in the malt bill, sure i get the excessive dry hopping, but thats just not enough to make beer good anymore, and the oxidation isnt helping. in the end, i drank this, and forgot it instantly, nothing new or special here. i dont hate it, even if it sounds like that, im not sure i really hate any beer, but it sounds like the other beers in this 518 series are a bit more interesting and inspired than this one. if this was awesome when it was fresh and im just a jerk, someone let me know or tell me where to find it, and ill apologize profusely, but i suspect thats not the case...
