Facts on Aecht Schlenkerla Eiche:
While for the classic Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier traditionally beech has been — and still is — used, the malt for Schlenkerla Oak Smoke is kilned with oak wood. The resulting Schlenkerla Oak Smokemalt has a smoother and more multilayered smoky note than the intensely aromatic beech smokemalt. The hence complex smokiness in this double bock is paired with the multifaceted bitterness of finest Hallertau aroma hops. With 8% alcohol and amber color it matures for months in the 14th century brewery cellars into a special treat for smoke beer lovers. As one of the last traditionally made smoked beers, Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier is a passenger in the „Ark of Taste” by SlowFood®.
Brewed with 100% Schlenkerla Oak Smoke Malt
40 IBU from finest aroma hops
Bernstein (amber) color

Pours a dark amber that reveals a completely crystal clear body and nice tan colored head. Notes of peated smoke, chocolate, roasted malt and assorted spices. The mouthfeel is light, with a slightly bitter finish. Immensely smooth for how much smoke is packed into this beer. Truly world class.

L: Deep, clear amber, moderate foamy light tan head.
S: Smoke, smoke, and...notes of toasted malt? Not a particularly pungent smell, but I'm not getting much beyond the smoke.
T: Not as smoky as the nose, fortunately. I get some molasses, brown sugar, rye bread, and dark fruits as well.
F: Medium body, lower carbonation. A quite astringent, dry finish.
Very unique--or, at least, the first time I've had a beer of this style. Flavors are well balanced not bad. I grew more accustomed to the flavor profile by the end, so I'll have to try it again, but I'm not sure if it's one I'll be returning to much.

Deep, brilliantly clear amber, minimal white head, not much in the way of retention, no real lacing
Bacon, properly smoked East Carolina BBQ before the sauce, active campfire, some sweet malt aromas, a bit of grape that I always seem to get from doppelbocks
Dry-cured bacon, real country ham, bread crusts, malt syrup, muscadine grapes, a bit of herbal hops on the finish.
Heavier bodied and lower carbonated, but very clean feeling
This isn't a beginner beer for someone either looking to try a doppelbock or rauchbier for the first time, but it is really great as a stand alone beer, or something to have with a big ol' plate of slow cooked or cured pork (BBQ, schweinhaxe, or a selection of pates and salumi)

Very hazy dark mahogany body, orange-golden brown in bright light. Short lived light beige soapy head, it took a sturdy, through-the-head pour for two fingers. Spots of lace remain.
Bold smell of a balance of smoke and sweet malt. Floral hops and beady malt (baked dark rye/wheat, toast, and some dough) also balance and support.
Big semi-sweet taste, average bitterness (smokey more than hoppy) with a great malt backbone. Above average hop taste. Items from the smell are bold with added dried fruits (apple, pear, peach, rasin, grape and plum) with faint fresh cherry and banana. It slowy dries to nuetral, with the lingering fruit and sweet malt taste averting dryness. Only the smoky/hoppy aftertaste is dry.
Medium-full bodied with below average carbonation, I suspect this is a bit old but still great.
Compared to other Schlenkerlas;
The oak smell is reminiscent of most campfires that I have lit when I didn't use pine. Not nearly as meaty as beech or cherry smoked malt. Very little ham taste or smell, just a taste of BBQ smoke. Bigger floral hops taste/smell.
As always, there's a fantastic Dopplebock under the smoke.

Amber-red wth a standard foam, white but no so much.
Rauch in an evident way into the nose, than malt but nothing else.
Even in the mouth rauch and smoke, then malt. You can find some spices (ginger) and a woody mode (pine?).
Warm and full but not boring. It manage the 8% in a good manner, so you can drink it without any problmes.

Well. The look is dark amber more amber than some dopplebocks.
First taste is very full filling malty. Then the smokiness. It’s smoky but maybe not as smokey as some of the other beechwood beers. Still smokey though.
The oakiness smoke suits this beer, I think. Not overwhelming but subtle.
This beer is unique. And that’s why it is so good.

Brown color. One-finger, off-white head. Aroma of bacon and malt. Sweet, malty taste with smoke and bread. Warming finish. A masterpiece of smoked beer.
